Seven Network 2024

911 always seems to have a blockbuster storyline to feature… The rollercoaster, the earthquake, the tsunami, the dam wall burst/mud slide plus bus crash into the side of a building, the zoo break and the blimp crash into a stadium. Seven always highlight these in promos.

Wouldn’t that 911 call not go through given they are on, you know, a cruise ship? Also, if it’s that far out to sea what would that have to do with the LAFD?

10-second promo aired during Seven News Melbourne this evening, saying Vera is coming to Seven and 7plus in 2024. What could it mean? Future seasons or old seasons?

The ABC currently has first run and repeat rights to Vera.

Wow, it must be first run, must’ve acquired rights (outbid ABC?) as it says main channel, otherwise if repeats would surely be 7Two (where all the other re-run UK mysteries reside). They could encore/repeat on 7Two as well.

This is a bit of a coup, given how strong the ratings are on the ABC and Seven being an even bigger network especially regionally and both do well in older viewers, which begs the question what demographic are Seven aiming for exactly? Although we have seen some high rating shows move from a public to commercial (even Seven) before and actually not fare as well (ads) or sink and die.

This is really going to confuse my Grandmother.

One example is Heartbeat. It was a solid Saturday night hit for the ABC. But once Seven snatched the rights to first run episodes and stretched each episode to 70 minutes long (including ads), the show’s popularity gradually dropped.

This is the same network that cancelled A Place To Call Home, the number one drama of 2013 I’m pretty sure, because it skewed too old.

A lot changes in a decade.

Season 13 of Vera, which has three movie-length episodes, premieres on ITV this Sunday (January 7).

Seven could show it from early February.

And arguably ruin the show. The ad breaks are not how the show is meant to be watched.

You know that Vera is on ITV in the UK (which has ads)

Yeah but they don’t have anywhere near the frequency 7 and 7+ will.

It was on 7Plus as well, during a totally different show, I wondered whether it’d already been airing maybe during cricket, but if only tonight that’s quick pre roll ingestion into the 7Plus system.
