Seven seems to be willing to experiment a bit more this year. From that article they’re looking at re-establishing drama and comedy back into the 7.30 timeslot.

If Starstruck starts next week where are the promos?

During the debut of Quantum Leap tonight, a promo for applications for a new adventure competition series called Ultimate Escape aired. It said the producers were looking for teams of 2 to take part in the competition, for a search and rescue mission in some of the toughest terrains in the world.

According to the show’s casting page, Ultimate Escape is produced by Helium (which also makes We Interrupt This Broadcast for Seven) and filming will take place in May and June this year.

Hard to believe this Friday 12 months ago was the Beijing Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony and another two week major sport event, plus the Aus Open and mid-year Birmingham Comm Games, as well as Qatar World Cup.

This year is going to take some adjusting and after a few years on lots of major sport events and local highlights, particularly for Seven, now will be a lonely place.

Seven has bought US crime drama The Rookie: Feds, the spin-off of The Rookie centered around the FBI. It stars Niecy Nash-Betts, who plays Simone Clark, the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy. It debuted on ABC in late September 2022.

Wasn’t that expected since 7 airs the Rookie?

It is not a guarantee.

Ten has long held first-run rights to Law & Order then its spin-offs SVU and Criminal Intent, however Seven showed Law & Order: Los Angeles and Nine has the rights to Law & Order: Organized Crime.

IIRC, there’s such thing as ‘life of run’ rights or what have you, which is probably evident by The Simpsons when it was on Ten and SVU on Ten, they get like a last right of refusal in contract renewals, even if a broader licencing agreement from that same studio has ended up elsewhere. A fellow MS wiz might be able to shed more light?

Instead of picking up these useless UK dramas why don’t Seven commission local dramas based on similar premises?

Waste of time for the main channel

I reckon 7 should try to get RockWiz from Foxtel for Saturday nights at 7.00.

Apparently it was shopped around to all networks, and Foxtel was the only one interested given the commissioning editors previous ties to SBS.

In any case, I don’t think the show would save 7’s Saturday nights.

Urgh so many similar products coming out these days. No wonder audiences are giving up on FTA. But networks all want the claim of having “the best (cooking/singing/renovating) reality show”.
