Maybe if they get a “refund” spend it on acquiring the RL State of Origin rights… was reported this week they were looking at splitting up the RL in new future deals??
True, although it’s still considerably easier to sell to the public the idea of a reworked MasterChef after its 5th season (or to keep it relevant to Seven, even a reworked House Rules after its 1st season) compared to a reworked MKR after its 11th season!
Agree!!!
This is why 9 gained the lead in 2019… over the past few years they’ve had a go at some new formats and hit the jackpot. That said, 7 have as well, but they have often been similar to other shows… we need something “original” if that’s possible
So gogglebox is a failure? Have you Been Paying Attention? Hamish and Andy’s perfect Holiday? The last 3 or 4 seasons of Masterchef (even though it keeps coming back)?
No thanks. Get some innovative programming to their slate instead of something that is on three nights a year.
It is all good to say 7 need something fresh and new but they can’t just do a major cut of 40 weeks of shows. They need to keep some and build new shows around that. In my opinion though I believe 7 have done that this year. They have launched Pooch Perfect - something not on any other network. They also have mini golf later in the year.
I don’t agree with those saying get rid of MKR I just think they need to go back to basics. It has rated successfully in the past and has the potential again. It was not a failure last year. It held its own and helped seven win early weeks against Married last year. This year its a different story. Lets not also forget Married at First Sight is down on last year. The only commercial network up in viewers in that 7:30 slot is actually 10.
It also should be noted House Rules got similar figures to what MKR is in previous seasons but 7 has kept that. Its not all about shares its also about what can make money. And House Rules and MKR bring in sponsors and therefore money.
They need both.
Good points
Indeed. With the way things have been in recent years I’m pretty sure Seven getting the rights to State of Origin matches (well, exclusive rights to any rugby league coverage really) is right up there with “Poaching Peter Overton and/or Cameron Williams” as one of the very few things that will get the network to #1 in the Sydney market!
If I was an advertiser, and I need to spend the least amount of money to get the most eyeballs, I’d think so.
Yes, I’m sure all these specific things are right up the top of Seven’s long list of things to fix
That makes no sense. I would like you to tell me what other platform can get 600-800k in the major cities at the very one time…
@Dingus advertisers pay c1000 - that is they pay for every 1000 viewers they teach
If a show rates 500,000 viewers or 1,000,000 - they get the same bang for buck
They don’t even need to wait for any upfronts. All the turkeys have already been roasted and if anything makes Nine and 10 look good. Such a shame for them but they’ve got no one else to blame.
Nine and ten are more competitive but Seven still leads in News, Sport, Breakfast
They only lead in sport (AFL) cause of the sport they have, it’s now up to the other networks do they want the same out lay of cash to but them or are they happy that entertainment is pulling enough viewers.
Nine are more competitive? They are currently leading the year…
I think it’s a bit early too call that. The two big flops so far have been reboots of existing ageing reality franchises. It’s possible that BB and POO may take. Although, the enthusiasm with which the MC audience has flocked to the reboot does maybe suggest that viewers had grown tired of Matt, Gary (and George), so they may avoid POO as a result
Accurate of plate of origin to be abbreviated as “poo”
And Manu.
As for sports the only thing that they should consider renewing is the AFL (and they need to try and get the price of a new deal down and hopefully get some exclusives/live streaming as part of their deal). Cricket needs to be renegotiated or they need to walk from it. Olympics, better not think about it until things get better financially.
That should somewhat help them divert whatever funds they have into high quality programming and maybe even a subscription streaming service. They will need to rely on less sports and more primetime programming to get back on top.
