Oh that’s probably Pell again. He’ll try and make it a Sunrise event.
He has amazing powers running a breakfast show and a whole network.
Sam Armytage mentioned in passing on Sunrise that 7 has the Oscars this year. Is this the first time ever they’ve not been on 9?
Just officially announced it on Sunrise.
probably Pell who got them.
No. In the past (80s?) they used to alternate between 7 and 9. I think even way back in the 70s they even appeared on 0-10
EDIT: in 1969 they were on 0 in Melbourne. Not sure about other cities. Telecast was on delay by a week
Ok thanks. Well they’ve been on 9 for a long time then.
Pell wouldn’t be responsible for programming acquisitions
Pretty sure he was joking.
So the Oscars will screen live at midday on 7, then an encore at 7.30pm on 7flix
Before this year’s switch back to Seven (which marks the first to be telecast on the network since 1988) I’m pretty sure the Oscars/Academy Awards had been airing on Nine annually since 1989, but don’t quote me on that.
I think Seven needs to be careful. When Nine regains the Oscars rights it could return the favour by insisting rival networks not to be at the red carpet.
In the US, even though ABC holds the broadcast rights, other networks such as E! are permitted to be at the red carpet and do interviews.
Didn’t 9 insist that Sunrise wasn’t on the red carpet last year? I think I recall Eddie reporting from somewhere nearby but not the red carpet…
I wonder if Nine will just use Sam Rubin from KTLA5 for the red carpet. Nine have used him for other red carpet events for which they haven’t had the rights to. KTLA usually have a live coverage of the red carpet for the awards ceremonies in Los Angeles.
Wonder if this is part of beefing up the offerings on 7flix this year?
“I’m Angela Bishop, reporting for CBS.”
I wonder if Seven classifiers will review (or have time to) and potentially get it edited, before airing the encore on 7flix that night?
Nine managed to do this last year, when Spike Lee swore while he was on stage. It went live uncut during daytime (obviously) and I can’t remember what Nine classified it.
But by the time the prime time encore on 9Gem aired at 7pm, classified it “PG” and ‘bleeped’ out his F-words when he came on. Whether they reviewed the entire broadcast or just knew where to skip to who knows.
But based on Joaquin Phoenix’s profanity-laden speech at the Golden Globes last week, get ready for the bleep button!
Petty nonsense, so typical of our commercial networks.
It happened in 2018
