No, you are right. Missed checking the early mornings, I was only looking at the late nights.

Why doesn’t Seven have late night highlights of the Thursday and Friday Supercars races, I wonder?

It could be a rights clearance matter - Formula 1 hold all the rights for what happens on a race weekend on-track (regardless of whos racing)

Seven has adjusted the late night highlights schedule so that the programs are now only 30 minutes. Hardly seems worth it.

The races are only 35 minutes so not losing too much.

Plus ads though.

Wonder why they scheduled it for 70 minutes originally.

I reckon Seven initially thought the Melbourne Supercars race (400 km in total) would take place over two days, before the organisers split the race over four days.

Darwin Triple Crown returns to Seven

Buckle up for the return of the hotly anticipated Darwin Triple Crown and the Repco Supercars Championship Indigenous Round, live and free on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus.

Supercars teams will unveil a host of incredible new liveries, in a spectacular celebration of First Nations’ culture and motorsport.

Sunrise favourite and Seven’s resident motorsport expert, Mark Beretta and Super2 driver Jack Perkins will take viewers live to Hidden Valley Raceway for a weekend jam-packed with action, kicking off from midday this Saturday, and a second five-hour telecast on Sunday afternoon.

Mark Beretta said: “Darwin is one of the most anticipated rounds of the year. The drivers, the teams, and the fans all look forward to the racing and the great weather. All the pressure will be on competition frontrunner, Brodie Kostecki, to maintain his lead.”

Supercars legends Garth Tander, Mark Skaife and Craig Lowndes return to the 7SPORT commentary box, alongside motorsport “master caster”, Neil Crompton; with fan favourites Mark Larkham, Chad Nylon and Riana Crehan bringing viewers all the pit lane drama.

Tune in to the full broadcast live and free on Channel 7, 7mate and 7plus, while the full replay will be available as catch-up on 7plus, as well as Supercars highlights, documentaries, and other bonus content.

When the cars pull up to the grid for the fifth stop on the Championship tour this weekend, young guns Kostecki and Will Brown are expected to continue their form, after their podium finish at the Tasmanian SuperSprint.

Leading the charge, Kostecki holds an 87-point lead over Brown while Chad Mostert sits a further 79 points behind in third.

The only Supercars event to feature drag racing, Darwin will also host Nitro Up North – the grand finale of the Australian Top Fuel Championship – broadcast live and free on 7plus from 5.30pm AEST on Saturday.

Noticed Sunrise’s Mark Beretta has been doing a lot of V/O work for Seven promotions/creative team (he has been a part of the unit since they got rights back from Ten in 2007 and I believe was at the face of this current era when getting back the rights again).

Shane Van Gisbergen chases Supercars win in Townsville after NASCAR victory on debut

Young guns fire up for leaderboard battle

REPCO Supercars champion Shane Van Gisbergen will be riding high at the NTI Townsville 500 this weekend, after stunning the world of motorsport this week by winning the NASCAR Cup Series race in Chicago on debut.

With the victory, the New Zealander became the first man in 60 years to win a NASCAR race on debut – promptly putting a target on his back on home soil, as the drivers’ championship heats up at the Reid Park street circuit, from 12.00pm this Saturday on Seven, 7mate and 7plus.

In the round six battle between the Chevrolet Racing Camaro and the Ford Performance Mustang, Van Gisbergen will have to be on guard from the young guns already dominating this year’s leaderboard – including Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown (pictured, with army mascot, ‘Courage’).

With a 142-point teams’ championship lead, Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus will look to hold their advantage, with Red Bull Ampol Racing hot on their tails.

Sunrise favourite and Seven’s resident motorsport expert Mark Beretta said: “This is fast shaping up as the round of the year in the glorious Townsville sunshine!”

“Shane Van Gisbergen arrives back all revved up from his world-beating NASCAR debut in Chicago, and the Mustangs’ pick up more speed, thanks to a tweak of the rear wing. Brodie Kostecki is going to have to fight like a Spartan to hold onto his championship lead,” he said.

“These will be the two most action-packed days of the Supercars season so far, and it’s all on Seven on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.”

Viewers will be able to vote in real-time for their favourite decade of Bathurst’s rich 60-year history and test skills in a timed memory challenge to go in the running to win a share in more than 60 prizes, as well as submit questions to be answered live during Seven’s broadcast.

Does Seven have a back up plan for Bathurst 1000 post-race coverage if the race (which starts at 11.15am AEDT) goes overtime this Sunday? Eight of the past ten races had been completed in between 6 hours and 6.5 hours, although both 2014 and 2017 races went over seven hours.

7two is available from 6pm AEDT while 7mate in WA will simulcast Fox Footy’s coverage of AFLW match between Fremantle and North Melbourne from 5pm AEDT.

Contingency plans for every possible race outcome, early/late finish, no start at all etc. would have been fully mapped out for each market months ago.
We will only find out what those plans are if it becomes necessary.

The technology of race coverage certainly come a long way. I remember the first year that Seven introduced cutting edge world first technology that allowed a fixed camera to broadcast from one car during the race. The Seven chopper had to follow the car around the whole track to get the signal out and they had to choose carefully a car they thought would make the whole race. Later years there were cameras in more cars then a camera that moved. They used to make a big thing about explaining the technology.

Another innovation was when digital TV first started 10 has coverage of the race on several multichannels.

In the end, no back-up plan was needed, as Shane van Gisbergen combined with Richie Stanaway to win today’s Bathurst 1000 in just over six hours, crossing the finish line just before 5.30pm AEDT.
