Seven Motorsport Coverage

My thoughts about Seven’s V8 Supercars Coverage.

Ups:

  • Viewers can stream the race live on 7Plus. Previously, when Channel 10 had the V8 Supercars (2016-20), people could not stream the coverage live on Tenplay. They have to buy like a subscription pass. When Seven regained the rights to the V8s this year, they can stream it for free.
  • Abbey Gelmi and Mark Beretta doing a good job hosting together. They provide a lot of chemistry.
  • These graphics are similar to the Seven’s Test Cricket Graphics (During pre-match talk).

Downs:

  • Perth viewers had the first hour of V8 Supercars on 7mate due to Sunrise on the primary channel. When 10 previously had the rights to the V8 Supercars, they showed the V8 Supercars on the primary channel in full. Viewers don’t like channel switching.

I thought Supercars had moved on from having women in skimpy outfits?

So your solution is for Sunrise viewers to channel switch, or go without?

My solution will be for WA to start Weekend Sunrise one hour early at 6am so the program can be aired in full before the Supercars.

You could last year, couldn’t you?

Neither do 10. Anyway it’s in HD, so it doesn’t matter really.

you couldn’t watch it live on 10Play.

Good streaming numbers for V8 Supercars on 7Plus.

Why does it seem like Seven are trying to use as much pre-2015 stock footage in the pre-race lead up? And I’m hoping they’re lying about the “ad-free” stream.

Why?

It was super easy to use and good quality via the app.

I like that, unlike nine/sbs you don’t have to sign in, instead it straight to the event/show and your away.

Good coverage and some great numbers. Ten missed the boat with this.

Removing a requirement in a revenue-sharing agreement doesn’t seem like ‘adequate’ compensation when you consider that (as I mentioned previously) Foxtel can undercut Seven’s rights simply by offering all of the FTA races on Kayo’s free tier

Wouldn’t be surprised if the highlight shows are made available on 7Plus before they air on Seven to give those who want to watch them the ability to do so without staying up late

Whincup bids to extend Townsville reign as Supercars rev up on Seven

NTI Townsville 500 this weekend on Seven and 7plus

Jamie Whincup will look to continue his remarkable dominance of the NTI Townsville 500 when the 2021 Repco Supercars Championship resumes live and free on the Seven Network this weekend, with the seven-time Supercars champion gracing Reid Park Street Circuit for the final time.

Whincup sits unchallenged on the all-time victory list at Reid Park with a remarkable 12 wins – and 20 podium finishes – from 29 races, and he will be hoping to cut into the Championship lead of Red Bull Ampol Racing teammate Shane van Gisbergen this weekend in front of a bumper Townsville crowd.

Two of motorsport commentary’s freshest new faces, Jack Perkins and Brad Hodge, will lead Seven’s coverage from Townsville, which features a combined 500km of Supercars racing across race 15 on Saturday and race 16 on Sunday.

Perkins, a long-time Supercars driver and the son of motorsport legend Larry Perkins, will host and provide expert comments from pit lane, while Australian cricket great and motorsport lover Hodge will bring fans all the colour and atmosphere from Reid Park.

The live and free broadcast kicks off at 1.00pm AEST on Saturday on Channel 7 and 7plus in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, and on 7mate and 7plus in Perth. Adelaide viewers will need to switch to 7mate at 2.30pm local time.

On Sunday, Seven’s coverage begins at 12.00pm AEST on Channel 7 and 7plus in Sydney and Brisbane, and on 7mate and 7plus in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. Perth viewers will need to switch to Channel 7 at 12.00pm local time.

Once again, fans will not miss a second of the Supercars race action with Seven’s coverage to continue uninterrupted during commercial breaks via cutting-edge picture-in-picture (PiP) technology.

Motorsport icons Mark Skaife and Garth Tander along with Chad Neylon will also be part of the coverage, plus fan favourites Charli Robinson and Mark Larkham in pit lane.

Fans will enjoy a trip down memory lane again this weekend as 7’s Motorsport Classics returns as the lead-in to Seven’s Supercars coverage on both days.

As host Jack Perkins revisits some of the greatest moments in Australian motorsport from the Seven vault, with thanks to Shannons, episode three (12.30pm AEST Saturday) relives some of the wettest and wildest racing in Supercars history, while episode four (11.30am AEST Sunday) looks back at some of most exciting and damaging races on the punishing streets of Townsville and Adelaide.

On both race days this weekend, viewers in all capital cities will be able to watch full race replays on 7plus on demand.

A one-hour package of Saturday’s highlights will also be shown on Channel 7 and 7mate directly following Seven’s AFL broadcast (Brisbane Lions v St Kilda) in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide, from 11.00pm AEST Saturday. It will be shown in Perth on Channel 7 at 12.00am local time.

A one-hour package of Sunday’s highlights will screen on Channel 7 at 12.50am Monday local time in all capital cities.

Three two-hour encores of both days’ highlights will also run in all capitals next week on 7mate, starting at 3.30pm local time on Monday, 12.00am on Tuesday and 10.00am on Friday.

Weird for a press release to list how many encores they’ll run, especially nothing days, times, channel etc.
