How do we know it’s a new building they are moving into?

Sound to me that Medibank is the main tenant for the building. I don’t think we’ll be seeing a big red 7 sigh on this building. Impressive office complex, but I’m worried this is going to be a big downgrade for HSV7.

Off-topic but I’m a bit surprised Medibank is moving out of their current building at 720 Bourke, that’s not even ten years old yet.

You’ll find a lot are of big corporate companies are downsizing their floor space due to the working from home movement. It seems to be happening all around the world.

But as for HSV7, I would expect they will downsize their Melbourne operations (greatly) since they have centralised most departments and programming to Sydney. I’m expecting a basic News studio with a closed off newsroom and control room.

I’m not sure they’ll have a second production studio. The Front Bar will most likely move to NEP Southbank. Hopefully I’m wrong.

Saw a promo during Australian Idol tonight that Seven is sponsoring St Kilda Festival on the weekend of February 17-18.

Given the tiny number of local productions, sponsoring local events such as St Kilda Festival is the best way for Seven to maintain its profile in Melbourne (which hopefully translates to higher ratings for its primetime line up).

Seven Melbourne announces new home

Seven Network today announced its Melbourne operation is relocating to Lendlease’s new Melbourne Quarter Tower development in early 2025.

Seven Network has leased approximately 4,500 square metres across levels 3 and 4 of the new tower on Collins Street, which will become home to its Melbourne staff and broadcast and digital operations. Melbourne Quarter Tower is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, James Warburton, said: “Docklands has been a fantastic home for Seven Melbourne for more than two decades, but the time is right to move to a new, more advanced facility, one specifically designed for our digital future.

“Melbourne is a critically important market for Seven and the home of some of our most valued partners, including the AFL and Cricket Australia. Our new operation in Melbourne Quarter Tower reflects the priority we place on Melbourne and will be a fantastic workspace for our people.” Seven’s Melbourne Managing Director, Lewis Martin, said: “Melbourne Quarter Tower is a brand-new development and will allow Seven Melbourne to be fit for purpose for both broadcast and digital delivery.

“Technology has come a lot way over the past 20 years and our new home in Melbourne is being created with our digital future firmly in mind. It will be an exciting, state-of-the-art place to work and the most advanced broadcast and digital operation in Melbourne.”

Lendlease Managing Director Development, Tom Mackellar, said: “The relocation of Seven Network reflects the growing demand we’re seeing for premium, mixed-use office precincts like Melbourne Quarter that enhance the workplace experience, support productivity, and help companies to attract and retain talent.

“With doorstep access to transport, quality amenity and services, along with a focus on wellness and sustainability and tech-enabled flexible workspaces that can adapt to future business needs, Melbourne Quarter Tower represents the next generation of office our tenant partners are looking for.”

Seven Network was advised in its negotiations with Lendlease by Tim Farley (National Director) and Mikayla Toy (Associate Director) from Colliers Tenant Advisory team.

Mr Farley said: “We are excited to have secured a new home for our valued client, Seven Melbourne, within Lendlease’s Melbourne Quarter Tower. The Melbourne Quarter precinct will provide the Seven Melbourne team with an iconic new home in Melbourne, with strong brand aligned in an environment that eliminates waste and provides best-in-class precinct and amenity within the highest standards of sustainability.

“Lendlease and Seven Network engaged in a collaborative approach towards activation of the Melbourne Quarter precinct. “Recognition must be given to the Seven team for their sustained energy, enthusiasm and focus over an extended period of time.

This review commenced in mid-2021 amid challenging and uncertain conditions still impacted by COVID related restrictions in Melbourne. We appreciate the efforts of all parties who participated in the exhaustive and highly competitive process,” he said.

Do we know how many studios they’ll have?

Yes, its clear Seven are now responding. Since Covid and James Warburton taking over the network, Seven have completely gutted HSV7 with very little investment into the station.

It was only a matter of time until numbers shifted back towards GTV9. And we are seeing this playout today. Hopefully, Seven can turn this around with increasing the stations resources, local deals and productions. But this takes time.

One thing that can be done asap is investing more into the Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal.

Hardly going to fix things. It was a boutique thing even before streaming well and truly took hold.

Refocusing Sunrise to be more engaged in Victoria (and not reporting on it like a foreign country), boosting the budget of the front bar and dropping blow-in Sydney hosts like Mel M, investing in new high quality footy programming and maybe a drama or comedy that is proudly made in Melbourne would help. Fox Footy having their own commentary teams and GFX on Seven games in a couple of years is going to hurt them more than they know. Seven’s footy coverage is not well regarded.

100% agree. These things take time but The Royal Children Appeal could be boosted and implemented straight away. Have the broadcast return to its traditional start time of 9am.

Speculation on this move should keep Media Spy going for another year and more

Maybe they could’ve relocated The Latest to Melbourne instead of the horror show that is Seven Perth

They would still have to pay staff more to stay back later.

Move the GFA back to it’s 9am start would be ideal, especially since they can still somehow have a 26 hour telethon in Perth, and top up the money for that one so that there is a new record total each year.

Also when the time comes, get the rights back to Moomba and NYE. Also a Sunday morning footy show could be another option.

Yes, 2013 saw a big promotional push for Seven Melbourne.

Today Tonight, Winners & Losers , The Afternoon News, Coxy’s Big Break, Deal or No Deal, AFL Game Day, Dancing with the Start, Australia’s Got Talent, Sunrise (Fridays edition),

Notice the difference compared to now? Hence why Seven is struggling in the biggest television market.
