Seven Melbourne

Seven will again broadcast Melbourne’s New Year’s Eve fireworks on December 31, with coverage starting at 11pm. It will be shown live across Victoria and Tasmania and on delay into NT. There will be a new host this year with Emily Angwin (who did a great job last year with Rob Mills) now working for Chinese state broadcaster CGTN in Beijing.

Wish qld would do some coverage. Not everyone goes out on NYE.

Half an hour earlier than usual. Surprising, considering that Seven have been cutting almost everything in the last couple of months.

I suspect City of Melbourne are footing production costs.

Of course they are

That’s something Nine or 10 could do.

Still surprised why this couldn’t be televised around Australia. It’s a great platform to showcase and launch the network into 2020.

Think they did exactly that a few years ago (8 or 9?) but later reverted back.

The presentation could easily be changed to accommodate a national audience. It could also be used to advertise new and current shows coming in 2020. It does this in Melbourne already.

The Melbourne fireworks display is of a world standard. But yes not in the same league as Sydney, but still a class act.

And why not cross briefly to Brisbane and other places?

Because the production costs are being payed for by the City of Melbourne.

Jacqui and Blake hosting NYE coverage from the Melbourne news studios. It’s more like a news presentation with coverage on the bushfire crisis in eastern Victoria and NSW South Coast.
Coverage was scheduled to start at 10.30pm but actually began at 10.52pm. With the BBL match between the Strikers and the Thunder finishing just past 10.30pm with the Thunder winning by 3 runs, Seven could have farewelled Victorian and Tasmanian viewers right after the post-match interview with player of the match Callum Ferguson, instead we had to endure a full post-match wrap.

The set looks great in pink.

I think it’s fine, especially as it’s a 7 News presentation with City of Melbourne.

In the past few years the coverage were held outdoors at Docklands.

Why are NYE broadcasts always so awkward?

They might as well just get the Sunrise or Today teams to present it who are at least qualified in the fluffy banter bullshit

Paul Dowsley what a wanker. This guy needs to be on morning television

Paul Dowsley is always great value!
