Tonight in Brisbane on Channel 70 is an AFL game in upconverted HD.
Meanwhile 7HD has still not been added to Freeview Plus (if anyone uses that) available on hybrid TVs.

At least here in Sydney, 7mate HD is airing a native HD broadcast of a Seven-produced AFL match (Richmond vs Swans, which I presume is also airing on Seven/7HD in Melbourne).
So after all this (and forgive me if I’ve missed this discussion) the West Coast game today is on 7 Perth not Mate?!?

correct. In Perth, 7HD simulcasts 7mate only. A big waste IMO and just pointless to have 7HD on anyway

Just as had happened on 7 Metro before 7HD launched, 7QLD has changed the LCN Names today removing the word “Digital”, and adding the city name.
70 is currently branded as “7 Townsville” here and continues at 576i for the time being.

So no one knows when 7 HD will be available in all regions , all the time ? Pretty sure nothing has changed up here in Central Qld. Haven’t got an aerial in but last time I checked 7 was in MPEG2 SD.
From what I understand a simulcast of 7mate airs on 7HD in MPEG 4 ? in some cities ? and this disappears after the games are over ?
With them changing 7Flix back to MPEG 2 makes me wonder about the widespread availability of 7HD to everyone. Does 7 have the “space” to make the main channel to HD in MPEG-4 with all the other channels in the formats they are ?
I wonder if they Olympics will be in HD for everyone on Ch 7 or they will just use 7 Mate for it ? Feels like 7 hates HD and technology changes lol.

No, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth receive a 24/7 simulcast of 7mate in HD on 70 in MPEG4 called “7 HD”.
While Melbourne and Adelaide receive a 24/7 simulcast of 7 in HD on 70 in MPEG4 called “7 HD”.
For us in Regional QLD, we have an MPEG2 copy of 7 on 70 and 7mate is MPEG2 HD on 73.

So there is nothing really stopping 7 from airing the main channel in HD for everyone once the Olympics start.

Not sure if this is happening elsewhere but I’m getting the 7 EPG on Ch70 instead of the 7mate EPG. A sign of things to come?
