Well the way the rights happened the first time was that Fox got the men’s internationals because they were sub licensed by 7 - but I don’t think 7 actually won the rights. So that’s how it was justified as being given to Fox when all the anti siphon stuff was talked about
In Tests played in Australia? They do. They have all women’s internationals played in Australia
I wonder if there is enough facilities for 2 different tv broadcasters in Darwin. If it’s only for 1 I guess 7 would have to be remote given Fox is the host broadcaster for test cricket. BUT they haven’t been on location for the South Africa series who knows
None of the commercials have their own OB equipment anymore and certainly nothing based in Darwin. They mostly use equipment from NPC, so NPC will drive up whatever is needed to wherever it’s required.
7 has been in Darwin & Alice Springs for AFL but even for AFL I think Fox had done studio commentary. So 7 would go on location with their commentators but Fox probably gets priority. Will be interesting to see what happens next year
3AW has sometimes asked 5AA or 6PR to cover matches in Darwin & Alice Springs for AFL, 7 has done same thing for AFL, but I think Fox had done studio commentary. ABC has a bit of advantage in that they can send Charlie King (who is their main Darwin commentator) over there and then fly out Quentin Hull and maybe Corbin Middlemas over there.
Another interesting aspect of the Bangladesh series is that it’s scheduled to take place at the end of July into early August. As such, Seven will very likely have to juggle not just having to simultaneously cover AFL, test cricket and Commonwealth Games but the scheduling of all three across the network.
Cricket is easy because they can have Alister Nicholson, Jason Richardson & Andy Maher do the play by play and use minimum experts. That way it doesn’t take Brayshaw away from AFL & radio, same with Tim Lane & don’t need to have Allison Mitchell come from UK.
ABC had 3 NT-based commentators call the Gold Coast Suns Darwin double - Rob Cross as caller for game 1, Joel Bowden in specials for both and Charlie King on the boundary for both. Chad Wingard and Mitch Turner (from Perth) called both games from Darwin, with Quentin Hull travelling from Brisbane for the Thu night game.
Presumably they’ll make room for extra boxes. Radio will probably call from there too. Whether it’s a temporary setup or retrofitting some corporate boxes/spaces.
