It’ll be the first time 7 are doing an ICC-sanctioned event. Last international cricket on 7 was the 2001 Ashes.
Seven also took the ODIs and T20 for the 2005 Ashes tour. IIRC they didn’t want the tests, only the limited overs stuff and thus that went to SBS.
Very much the opposite situation to today in that regard.
That’s a great get for Seven. I’m very surprised they picked it up.
And exclusive rights as well
I can’t imagine that it would be of significant interest in markets that arent participating in the game either
That’s what I was mostly surprised with. Thought Fox had it because they broadcasted the last final but because Australia made it I was expecting either 9 or maybe 7 to broadcast it with Fox. Did not think it would be exclusive to FTA
What production music is Seven’s cricket music? Just heard it on Ambulance Australia.
According to The Sunday Telegraph’s Phil Rothfield, Fox Sports has rejected an approach from Seven to use Adam Gilchrist as part of their commentary team for next month’s World Test Championship final in London.
So maybe 7’s going to use their own commentary team?
Presumably he’s part of the ICC World Feed and Seven seemingly will do their own “studio” non-match commentary hosting, and will be taking the ball-by-ball of the ICC. I don’t think broadcasters are allowed to do their own commentary if an official feed is provided in their language.
maybe that’s what 7 might of asked to use Gilchrist for, to be part of their pre/post-match coverage and interviews since he would be at the ground for the ICC Feed.
Had it been accepted (and presumably he’ll be part of it) that would be the hattrick of commercials: Started at 9, BBL at 10 and WTC at 7!
There has been a suggestion that the Gilchrist story is incorrect and it’s Seven who have raised concerns about Gilchrist’s on-camera involvement in the coverage given he’s not Seven talent
Rather petty from Seven if so - you’re buying the world feed.
Spark Sport talent featured on the world feed on the last WTC final featuring NZ and India which was carried on Sky NZ.
It’s so incredibly petty a position I can see why you’d want to push an alternative story
It’s Seven. And every other commercial network in this country. What else do you expect from them?
I’d expect them to act like adults, but clearly that is too much to ask.
That’s ridiculous if that’s the case. Pretty much every weekend outside VIC you will see Fox talent on AFL broadcasts.
I had it marked down on my bingo card, titled “will seven make a legal case over something to do with cricket in ‘23”.
So then being petty over this, is no surprise!
I wonder how the broadcast aspect will work since under the old deal 7 broadcast 44-45 BBL matches.
