7 wrapped up by 11:45pm AEDT
Broadcast concluded at 11:45 pm (AEDT)
I missed the 7 coverage as I was watching on Fox. Did they rotate the commentators during games as they do for the Tests?
One of my pet hates about the BBL on both channels is having just the 3 commentators for the whole night. It gets quite boring.
Yes, they rotated the commentators after 10 overs in each innings.
7 has used 4 people during the season before. 1 ball by ball caller & 3 analysts who rotated out. But this is the first time they have used 2 callers
Seven scores the ICC World Test Championship Final
Live, free and exclusive from The Oval in London
The Seven Network, the home of live and free cricket, today announced it has secured the exclusive Australian broadcast and digital rights to the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 between Australia and India in June.
The agreement with the International Cricket Council will see the eagerly anticipated Ultimate Test between the two highest-ranking sides in the world shown live and free on Seven and 7plus.
The gripping final will be shown here in prime time from 7 June to 11 June, with a reserve day in place (12 June), and will take place on neutral territory at The Oval in London. The Oval is one of the most iconic Test venues in the world with a rich history, having already hosted 104 Tests.
India is determined to make up for its loss in the inaugural World Test Championship Final to New Zealand in 2021, while the Australian team has its sights set firmly on taking the World Test Championship mace.
Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “The showdown between Australia and India will be one of the great moments in international sport this year and we are honoured to be partnering with the ICC to bring all the action to Australians, live, free and exclusive on Seven and 7plus.
“The ICC World Test Championship is the premier competition in Test cricket. The prospect of playing in the final has been a big motivator for the Australian team in recent years, while India is focused squarely on taking the mace after its 2021 loss.
“The fierce rivalry between Australia and India, played out at an iconic venue, will make this a competition that no Australian sports fan will want to miss,” he said.
ICC Chief Commercial Officer, Anurag Dahiya said: “We are delighted to partner with the Seven Network to bring the ICC World Test Championship Final 2023 to our fans in Australia. The second edition of the Ultimate Test is set to be a momentous occasion, and we can’t wait to see who will be crowned the new World Champions.”
Good pickup
Great news. The test is slated for a Wednesday to Sunday period of five days - so hopefully that means Seven could show it on the main channel (but would have to be moved to 7mate for AFL states when AFL is on).
Could this be an indication that 7 won the other ICC events too since those negotiations started after the local ones ended.
Also it’s on 7+ & exclusive to 7 too. Surprised it’s not joint with Fox since they broadcasted the last one which didn’t have Australia
The major risk of putting it on the main channel, depending on the forecast, is rain.
The WTC final should be on 7mate.
Nine used 9Gem to telecast the Ashes in 2013, 2015 and 2019 (and will again this year), and the channel often got double digit audience shares each night the cricket was on.
It would be a bit of an upheaval to program this for the main channel with games starting at 7pm AEST. More likely stripped in a consistent timeslot across 7Mate at least on Wednesday to Friday.
Finally seven have realised they don’t need FOX to help out!!
Let’s hope this kind of exclusive rights deals are done more often!
Not really - first ball is 11am London time which would be 8pm AEST so there would be time for Seven to fit in Home and Away and a half-hour pre-game beforehand.
Whether airing it on the main channel is ‘viable’ considering Seven’s AFL commitments (including a Thursday night game) is another question.
They’ll take the ICC pre-match etc. presumably?
Believe this (and the last one) was offered to markets as a one-off as it didn’t exist when previous ICC rights deals had been signed and some of those went through to 2023. (And the ICC isn’t in the business of adding on these for free)
I would think they would take a similar route to Nine’s coverage of ICC tournaments: Produce their own pre-game, lunch, and tea break, while taking the world feed for game coverage.
Good to see exclusive free to air coverage for 7 airing the WTC in prime time
From CA article
will start at 10am local time, meaning a 7pm start for Australia’s eastern seaboard, and 5pm for Perth viewers.

Seven’s deal to screen the WTC final comes with the International Cricket Council still in negotiations for an Australian broadcast partner for all of it events, which include men’s and women’s one-day and T20 World Cups as well as men’s 50-over Champions Trophy tournaments and the World Test Championship finals. The ICC is working directly with broadcasters for the first time, with negotiations over rights for women’s events a key part of the discussions for the rights to be sold in either a four-year or eight-year block from 2024.
The ICC, which had been keeping an eye on progress on the anti-siphoning list review, is hoping to finalise negotiations in April
I thought Foxtel would get this. This is a good pickup by 7!
