Seven Cricket Coverage

7 at the ground in Tasmania (Hobart) for the Women’s T20. Why couldn’t they have
some of them commentate the BBL yesterday (Launceston)? Or even send BBL commentators to Tassie like with the women’s internationals

On another note, it’s rare to see “next” promos for 7mate these days, for programming outside non-regulars (Pawn Stars, American Pickers, etc) such as for movies and special events like sport with this. I feel when I see m/c do these, especially localised and good quality, that you can tell the promo team were somewhat invested in making it or really want specific viewers to tune-in. But as you show, yes, odd timing.

7’s promos for live sport are all over the shop. Inaccurate and deceptive.

Were they the host broadcaster for that game?

Like, I cant say it any more times… if they aren’t, they don’t have the facilities to do ground hosting.

7 are the host broadcaster for BBL & Women’s internationals

No, they’re not. Not for all of the games.

Women’s games yes, BBL absolutely not

They are the Host broadcaster for the BBL except the 16 Fox exclusive games. That’s why they do the toss, player of the match & international feed etc.

So yes they are the host for BBL even if Fox broadcasts ALL games & 7 doesn’t.
Fox is only hosts for their 16 exclusive games

No. They are not the host broadcaster for all BBL games.

There are 16 Fox exclusive games - they’re not for those - then there’ll be an alternating roster between what’s a Fox game (that 7 takes) and what’s a 7 game (that Fox takes)

That’s how this works. It’s the same as AFL and NRL… and why 7 are at the women’s game because that’s their broadcast.

There’s no alternating roster. If 7 are broadcasting the game, they are the host broadcaster.

I always thought that if 7 were broadcasting a BBL match they were the host broadcaster.

Every match they cover uses UltraEdge for DRS decisions, whereas the other 16 matches (Fox Exclusives) use RTS, just like the tests which Fox are host broadcasters for. Also aren’t the 16 Fox exclusives the only 16 Fox show in 4k?

I know literally nothing though and you seem pretty sure, but that was the assumption I’ve always made.

So please explain to me then how the AFL and the NRL are allocated, it’s exactly the same.

If Seven broadcast the game, they are the host. Simple as that. Except for one game in 2020 that’s how it’s been since the start of the deal.

I’m fairly sure (and someone can correct me if I’m wrong on this) the NRL is similar to the cricket. Whatever games Nine shows, except for the late season Saturday night games, Nine is the host broadcaster for.

Yes, that would be correct.

Yep and for AFL.
If Seven Melbourne are showing the game. Channel 7 are the host broadcaster.

Fox are the Hosts for the Men’s international matches & the 16 Exclusive matches.

7 are the hosts for ALL WBBL/BBL matches they broadcast even if Fox broadcast them too & Women’s Internationals

Exactly, that’s another way to see who the host broadcaster is since 7 & Fox use different DRS providers

So 7 was the host for both the BBL in Launceston (Hurricanes v Heat) & the Women’s T20 International in Hobart.

This season they have call all Melbourne games at the ground and 2-3 Sydney games, all other matches were from their studio.

Since they were able to send a commentary for the Women’s T20 to Hobart, I was wondering why they couldn’t of used the same commentary team or send their BBL team to Launceston

Ok then. Believe what you will.

For the AFL, Fox takes 7’s coverage with 7’s commentary.

For the BBL, Fox uses their graphics & commentator using what cameras provide (controlled by 7) & for Women’s internationals Fox takes 7’s graphics with Fox commentators.

From the new AFL deal, Fox will be using their graphics & commentators for 7 broadcast games.
