Looks like Alison Mitchell will be staying for the Women’s Ashes

And I’m also assuming similar to the other women’s matches, 7 will be the world feed and Fox will also be taking the 7 feed?

Yep, that seems to be the plan. Fox will probably still do their own stuff outside of the actual ball-by-ball.

Great news! More Alison, less Richardson

You can see all the different bats they use for demos.

He is probably not part of the Womens Ashes, as I would think he is involved with the Winter Olympics

While the ratings for BBL in the evenings are reasonable, I wonder if 7 would get better results by just screening the games in the relevant markets on the main channel, and on 7mate in the other markets. (Eg. Heat v Strikers on 7 in Brisbane and Adelaide).

However, I’m sure that would be a scheduling nightmare, of what to screen in the other markets, which would be different each night.

So, I guess I’ve answered my own question… it would never happen. The gain wouldn’t be worth the hassle.

The ratings aren’t too bad are they for ‘neutral games’ in markets where there isn’t a team playing?

Seven wanted BBL because it gives them (barring washouts) content most nights for a near two month stretch meaning they can hold on to their stronger non-sport content for later.

Look like most of Seven’s commentators are staying in Melbourne for the fifth and final Ashes test, although Mel is at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

Glenn McGrath and Ian Botham also in Hobart. Surprised that Ricky didn’t come down but he’s in Melbourne still.

Oh. I thought Botham went home. So no Atherton this test?

Damn. Athers is the best of the male poms that are over here atm imo.

Atherton is commentating this match.

Great to hear! Although I’m isolating and only have Kayo to keep me company, so I won’t hear at all.

Channel 7 showed a replay of the 4th Test during a rain delay.

Yes, good to hear both Botham and Atherton with it and I’m looking forward to this game, I know there were a couple of rain (or non-rain even for last night, there was nothing on the radar and even people at the ground said it was nothing!) delays and there might be some later this afternoon with some possible storms but the rest of the match should be pretty safe and clear.

Can’t get over how green that pitch is though and I’m hoping this is a really good match, it’s nice hearing them all talking up Tassie too and I reckon Peter Gutwein would be thinking it’s a pretty good $4m spent now!

Travis Head slays in return to Australian side

Day one of Fifth Test reaches 4.38 million on Seven

Travis Head made a definitive mark on his return to the series yesterday, leading a match-saving counterattack with an impressive century on day one of the Hobart Test, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage reaching 4.38 million people and peaking at 1.5 million.

After a worrying start for the Aussies, down 3/12 in the first session, Head led the fightback to take them to 241/6 at stumps, as Seven recorded an average audience of 977,000 viewers nationally for yesterday’s third session.

The second session had 965,000 viewers nationally, while the first session recorded 856,000 viewers nationally. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people. Seven had seven of the top 10 programs nationally yesterday, five of which were Ashes sessions.

Seven delivered 75% of the Ashes broadcast audience nationally. In the capital cities, Seven recorded a commercial audience share of 46.5% in total people and 48.1% in 25 to 54s from 6pm to midnight.

Red numbers? Is this a new thing?

Yeah I saw that the other night. Red is traditionally used in scorebooks to denote a batter being ‘not out’ at the end of their innings. I don’t like it being used for the batters that are out. It doesn’t look very good either.

I think it should be the reverse of what they currently use. A white background with black and red text for current batsmen, and a green background with white text for the batsmen who are out.
