What happened to the pink blazers?
Uzzie’ shines in return to Test cricket
Day two of Pink Test reaches 3.4 million on Seven
Usman Khawaja made a fairytale return to Test cricket on the Seven Network yesterday as he led an Australian batting revival on day two of the Pink Test, with the live and free coverage reaching 3.4 million people and peaking at 1.6 million.
As Khawaja compiled a rousing 137 on his homecoming at the SCG that helped the Aussies to a commanding first innings declaration of 8/416, Seven recorded an average audience of 1.17 million viewers nationally for yesterday’s third session.
Day two coverage across the day averaged 929,000 viewers nationally, up 24% year-on-year. The second session had 876,000 viewers nationally, while all sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.
Seven delivered 78% of the Ashes broadcast audience nationally. In the capital cities, Seven recorded a commercial audience share of 62.7% in total people and 66.1% in 25 to 54s across the day.
JB hosted lunch break from Melbourne today. I saw him, Fleming and Copeland chatting with Travis Head (who is at the SCG after coming out of isolation).
No Tim Lane today?
I haven’t heard Ponting either.
He was on earlier today.
They have gone from having a regular pattern to being now all over the shop
JB just said Sir Ian Botham watching from home. I assume he has headed back to the UK now?
Thanks for this, very interesting!
Super work!
I have said before that the seven coverage this summer, has more energy, life and better overall.
The example you just showed, you could hear the difference! The tone of fox was the same throughout, no energy, Pointing goes up a gear and o’keefe keeps the I am falling asleep tone going.
Plus the extra level of detail around the Carey drop etc was excellent.
All guts and heart as England hold on
Day three of Pink Test reaches 3.5 million on Seven
Warriors Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes led a defiant English batting counterattack to take the tourists to 7/258 at stumps on day three at the SCG yesterday, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage reaching 3.5 million people and peaking at 1.5 million.
On a day that also belonged to Aussie cult hero Scott Boland who sent the crowd wild with 2/0 from his first five overs, Seven recorded an average audience of 1.2 million viewers nationally for yesterday’s third session.
The second session had 1.03 million viewers nationally, while the first session recorded 808,000 viewers nationally. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.
Seven delivered 78% of the Ashes broadcast audience nationally. In the capital cities, Seven recorded a commercial audience share of 59.4% in total people and 62.9% in 25 to 54s across the day.
At 8.56am Qld time on 7, they advertised the final day’s Ashes as 9.30am AEDT (it had already started) on 7mate, but it was about to switch to the main channel in 4 minutes time.
The advertising of cricket on 7 continues to be a mess.
Could this be Tim Lane’s last summer commentating for seven hence seven are using Nicholson as he will be Lane’s successor?
I always assumed Nicholson became a last minute reserve host/commentator due to Covid so I doubt there is a succession plan at play here.
That said, he’d be a very good successor.
Don’t think a succession plan is needed. If Lane retires before the end of this broadcast deal (only two seasons left after this one), Nicholson is ready to step straight in.
I do hope he’s being groomed to do more than cricket at 7 though.
Inspired Aussies chasing 4-0 series lead
Day four of Pink Test reaches 3.7 million on Seven
A second stirring century from Usman Khawaja put Australia in the box seat to secure the Fourth Test, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage of day four at the SCG yesterday reaching 3.7 million people and peaking at 1.6 million.
With England now chasing an unlikely target of 388 to stop an Aussie whitewash on what will be a tense final day’s play, Seven recorded an average audience of 1.3 million viewers nationally for yesterday’s third session.
The second session had 1.02 million viewers nationally, while the first session recorded 799,000 viewers nationally. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people. Seven had five of the top six programs nationally, four of which were Ashes sessions.
Seven delivered 77% of the Ashes broadcast audience nationally yesterday. In the capital cities, Seven recorded a commercial audience share of 67.4% in total people and 67.2% in 25 to 54s across the day.
Would’ve liked to see him be Bruce’s successor. Don’t really like Hamish and even Richo…
I’m sure it’s probably been raised here before but is there a reason Glenn McGrath hasn’t been part of the main commentary lineup the past two seasons? He just seems to have a minor live cross on the odd occasion.
