Does anyone else think Lisa Sthalekar is not great as a commentator?
She’s fine, except for when she hams it up with the rest of the team but that applies to almost every sports commentator in the country.
That’s the “unilateral” feed. Contains score bug, replays etc… but no commentary or promos.
The alternative broadcaster receives that and cuts their own broadcast with it - they have a few extra cameras at the ground (as was the case at the Gabba ashes test…) to use, and their own replay operators working too.
It’s the same as the world feed, but with a layer of graphics on it… not quite a full downstream mix.
A fascinating comparison for MS would be recording both 7 and Fox off air and seeing the subtle changes the directors make.
… In Fox hosted games the Fox rover and spidercam aren’t part of either feed so macros on the switching desk will go to a default camera…
There’ll be a 4 channel audio feed. 2 channels are stereo feed with commentary. The other 2 channels are stereo feed without commentary. The local broadcaster can choose to switch between the two.
You often see this in most international sports when a local host or announcer is speaking over the coverage and you still here audio effects of the match but not the the underlying commentators.
They then may say something like “now returning you to the commentary team” and the commentators are gently faded back up, often mid-conversation.
Interesting. I’m watching on Sky NZ for the avoidance of doubt.
It becomes a bit of a mess - because they take Fox pre-game and innings break but revert to Seven for the game itself (must be obliged to), but on occasion the switcher at Sky forgets and mid over the broadcast switches from Fox gf and comms to Seven.
England strikes back
Rain-affected day one of Pink Test reaches 3.1 million
The tourists fought their way back on a frustrating day one of the Pink Test at the SCG yesterday to claim three crucial early wickets between rain delays, with the Seven Network’s live and free coverage reaching 3.1 million people and peaking at 1.3 million.
With the match in the balance at 3-126 heading into day two, Seven recorded an average audience of 827,000 viewers nationally for yesterday’s third session.
The second session had 661,000 viewers nationally, while 661,000 viewers nationally also tuned in for the first session. All sessions dominated their timeslots, ranking #1 in 25 to 54s, 16 to 39s and total people.
Seven delivered 76% of the Ashes broadcast audience across the capital cities and regional markets. In the capital cities, Channel 7 up 127% year-on-year in total people and up 180% in 25 to 54s during day time, while the Seven Network recorded a share of 55.4% in total people and 58.8% in 25 to 54s during day time.
Update to 10 January AEDT advised by Seven
02:00 PM Big Bash League Hobart v Sydney Thunder
07:00 PM Big Bash League Melbourne Stars v Adelaide
Also changed 5th test schedule:
Trent Copland in commentary with Alison Mitchell and Ricky Ponting
That’s cause Fox don’t use those cameras for BBL. They are only used on international matches, ODI and Test.
No BBL on Seven tomorrow night.
Any reason why James Brayshaw is not in commentary this test match?
He’s been commentating on Triple M
He’s also in Melbourne
He’s doing Triple M from home in iso. I think he mentioned he might be back on Seven’s coverage from tomorrow. Hosting from Melbourne though I presume.
You’re right of course, as we see during 7 AFL games on Fox…
Sorry I was talking about internationals…
All good mate and that’s just strange than.
Been noticing the differences between each broadcasters’s BBL coverage recently, how do Fox receive the camera feed and replay stingers from Seven, but not the graphics which are layered ‘in-between’ on seven’s coverage? (as in the graphics are shown under the replay stingers but above the camera shots)
10:00 AM start for each day’s play for the remainder of the test.
