Yeah, I’m aware of this. Just a shame they don’t replay all games on TV, but I understand that Home Shopping makes them money whereas this wouldn’t.

Seven wins AFMA awards

Seven AFL commentator Brian Taylor and Seven News reporter Tom Browne were tonight honoured at the Australian Football Media Association awards.

Brian Taylor was awarded the Lou Richards Medal for his work on Seven’s AFL coverage in 2017.

The medal is awarded to a former or current league footballer working in the media. It recognises all the qualities displayed by Lou throughout his career on and off the field including his personality, humour and ability to talk about the game.

Tom Browne was awarded the AFMA for the Most Outstanding Breaking News Report for his exceptional work on the story of Dustin Martin signing his new seven- year contract with the Tigers.

The award recognises the art of meeting a deadline on an unfolding story with accuracy and new information.

Preliminary Finals

Tigers, Cats, Giants and Crows battle for Grand Final spots

The Crows and the Cats finished first and second respectively in the home-and-away season and face off in a Preliminary Final showdown on Friday Night Football with a coveted Grand Final spot on the line.

Cats powerhouse and 2016 Brownlow medallist Patrick Dangerfield battles against his former side for a Grand Final berth and we look back on his football journey. Passionate Crows supporter Lleyton Hewitt narrates a feature that fans will not want to miss. We also speak to both team coaches Chris Scott and Don Pyke live before the bounce.

On Saturday Night Footy, the Tiger Train continues to steam ahead toward their first Grand Final appearance since 1982 with an army of fans behind them. However, the Giants are standing in their way with their sights set on earning their first flag.

The Kick counts down to the bounce and rides the wave of emotion with Tiger great Matthew Richardson and the endlessly passionate Mick Molloy. Sam Lane joins Brian Taylor for a look at Motorcycle speedway. Trent Cotchin and Callan Ward chat to the team in the lead up to one of 2017’s biggest games.

Richmond premiership legend Dale Weightman opens the coverage as he reflects on the history of the Tigers, from playing in the 1980 Grand Final as a star forward, to where the team is today.

Interesting to see the Brownlow Medal given main channel treatment in Perth.

Is that the usual?

Given lack-there-of with many AFL games (though I do understand that’s for the time difference, 6pm News, etc).

The Brownlow Medal coverage has always been on the main channel in Perth for as long as I can remember; at least after the news and TT

I noticed at the end the game last night, there was a super that said that there would be a replay of the game on Seven at 1pm today in Melbourne and Adelaide.

I just noticed FOX Footy is also airing a replay of the game at the same time. That wouldn’t happen very often.

Yahoo7 and Nine (The Fix) online guides have Footy’s Funniest at 10.30pm in Adelaide and Perth after The Front Bar.

Interesting to see Seven (from this year - new broadcast deal) changing up the Boundary Riders (or as they call them - Field Commentators).

The last 5 years, it was set each game.

Friday: Tim Watson or Matthew Richardson
Saturday Arvo: Drew Kirk > Tim Watson
Saturday Night: Cameron Ling
Sunday: Cameron Ling > Nick Maxwell (interchanging with Mark McVeigh, Nick Riewoldt & Andrew who played for Essendon).

Now, they’ve copied what Ten always did, a Boundary Rider for each state:

Sydney: Jude Bolton
Melbourne: N/A
Brisbane: ?
Adelaide: Mark Soderstrom
Perth: Peter Bell

Which I guess carries it’s good and bad?

It rated pretty well though?

With the Crows in the GF anything footy related on 7 Adelaide should rate its tits off this week.

This GF is going to be epic. Melbourne and Adelaide is going to absolutely smash it in the ratings, and their news figures should also smash the competition for good this weekend.
