I wonder if Olympics had anything to do with this call? If he moved to Seven he might not have been able to call the Olympics for Nine in Brisbane.

Will Seven’s Sunday game not become Saturday, from Round 9 (once Foxtel’s exclusivity period has finished)? Seven seem to have always favoured prime time/Saturday night over daytime/Sunday afternoon. Unless I’m understanding this wrong or it’s not allowed or something.

7 is supposed to have Saturday matches for the last 8 rounds that they produce & also non vic markets have their teams live after R8.
If the AFL does have Thursday’s all season then 7 could then lose their Saturday produced games into vic but still keep the live games in non vic

There will be some rounds where they broadcast four games (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), as the deal is 3.5 games per round, meaning that there will have to be some rounds where they broadcast four games.
Currently, there are approximately 84 games on FTA - if they only broadcast three games per round, then they will only show 72 - even if you include marquee matches (Dreamtime at the G, Anzac Eve, Anzac Day, King’s Birthday Eve, King’s Birthday Match, Gather Round) - there will still have to be approximately six weeks where Seven airs four games, as the AFL has guaranteed that the same amount of games will air on FTA.
I don’t know where this whole final eight rounds thing comes from - I can’t find anything about it either from the AFL, The Guardian, the ABC, or SEN.

Wouldn’t they drop Sundays, so they could get prime time Saturdays? We’ve seen over the years often how important that last day can be for their weekly share and without AFL would be in doubt.

It was announced that 7 has Thursday for first 15 matches, Friday & Sunday for the whole season AND Saturday night matches from R16 after the Thursday matches end

Sundays would be critical to their lead-in for news, and prime time - also remember, they have to cater for Fox since they are helping to fund the 4.5 billion dollar deal.

All I can find is this from The Guardian.
Seven will broadcast all Friday night games, Thursday night games in the first 15 rounds of seasons, and all marquee matches, such as Anzac Day and Easter Monday, live and free.
No mention that they will only start showing Saturday matches after Round 15 - otherwise, there won’t be the same amount of games broadcasted of FTA.
Okay I apologies - don’t know how I missed it - however, I still don’t think they are going to be able to deliver on their “same amount of games on FTA” if they go down this route, since there won’t be a Thursday Night match in every round.
Yes they will. Add all the public holiday football. Opening round (example 2024 was they had 3 of the 4 games)
It’s not that hard to get to 3.5 games a round.
I did - they will still be at least 6 games short (3 if they do Gather Round again).
They both mention that Fox has first 8 rounds Saturday as exclusive & that 7 will broadcast Saturday night in the final 8 rounds. But neglect to mention what happens to Saturdays in the middle rounds.
The speculation was that R8-15 Saturdays would be live to non vic. It could mean that 7 does have games into vic from R8 but nothing is actually confirmed about the middle rounds

Exactly - this is where I think they may be slotting in some rounds where they get four games (if they don’t have enough Marquee matches).
