Seven will be hoping for a mass audience from Queensland for the Lions’ thumping* of the Swans today (*presumed)… Nsw will have tuned-out completely, especially given 2022.
This will be the first premiership for Brisbane in 21 years, when they went back-to-back-to-back and beat Collingwood for the second year in a row in 2003. They’d make a 4th in a row, but finally lose to Port Adelaide the next year. And after having lost last year’s thriller to, again, Collingwood.
And for 60 year old coach Chris Fagan, Joe Daniher’s final match, two time Brownlow winner Lachie Neale…
The celebrations when they return to Brisbane should be amazing and for old Fitzroy in Melbourne.
And 1 up Qld on the old enemy down south Nsw, wink wink.
I think the Qld audience could be bigger than last year - there is much more focus on just AFL GF this year due to the Broncos not being in the NRL finals plus it is a rainy overcast afternoon just right for staying in side and watching the footy.
Sydney numbers will obviously not be optimal but the reach number that Seven likes will be there.
FTA is always going to suffer there with so many multichannels crammed in - Nine is worse with extra HD stream. 7HD has settled to average just under 5Mbps which is as good a Seven could get with its multiplex. - Imagine anyone watching on 7SD!
People were over Geelong (and Sydney TBH) too, so for those reasons and Brisbane being there and the way they’ve made finals (after first half season flail), the GF (outside the 4 rare like 2016 Dogs) and won this, numbers should be higher than 2022 or at least show something for Seven in the Qld markets plus now being VOZ/‘reach’ as Cynic touched on and 7Plus
Yep, Sydney and much of NSW is rugby mad. So is Queensland, but with the incoming victorious win from the Lions, I reckon Queensland will be caring more about the AFL celebrations than rugby.
UPDATE: Sydney is now trying to catch up to stop themselves from becoming the total laughing stock of Australia.
