Seven AFL Coverage

Bennett was one of the original commentators when Fox Footy Channel started in 2002.

They will be doing some Saturday Night matches in later rounds + key events (Dreamtime, ANZAC Day, etc).

Yes but most weeks it would be 3 matches and so having 6 callers isn’t too much. They currently have 5 & it would be 6 if Hamish returns. Because of this I don’t think 7 would make changes to their callers unless they hire someone new and then lose one of their current callers.

I think most changes would be with their ‘expert’ and ‘boundary’ commentators

AFAIK BT already renewed and JB is on a long-term network contract for Cricket and AFL.

Richo seems Seven loyal, like your Bruce or Johanna, probably countless offers over the decades but never leave (bar the latter’s infamous axing in the mid-90s before returning for Sydney 2000) already been there 15 years, one of the longest serving now and goes back to an HSV golden era.

I know what you’re saying, but as I’ve said before it’s not financially viable. BT already does 2 games per weekend so I doubt that would change. I’d just be shocked in this current climate if they paid for 6 permanent callers.

Could easily see Darcy heading to Fox. Him and Howie especially have good chemistry on Triple M so he would slot in well - he would get to call more games at Fox.

Interesting to hear Daisy Thomas say on Triple M today that he has not yet re-signed on Seven for 2025 onwards.

And some other old ex-Ten colleagues there, including Howard, but also Underwood (who called with Darce as expert on some games in 2009 and 2010) and Hudson. Would be some producers etc too.

Interesting, then I wonder why his name was included in the Kane Cornes press release talking about 2025+

Channel 7 is set to unleash a new show built around agenda-setter Kane Cornes as part of a major shake-up of its football programs.

The bombshell move of poaching Cornes from Channel 9 this week has raised the stakes in the TV football wars for 2025.

It’s likely Seven will use their new signing in a head-to-head battle on Monday nights against rival established football programs Footy Classified on Channel 9 (which Cornes was on) and Fox Footy’s On The Couch.

But the future of Seven’s current panel show, Talking Footy on Wednesday nights, is clouded.

The show has failed to grab viewers with the line-up of former champions Trent Cotchin and Joel Selwood, Tim Watson and James Brayshaw not gelling.

“They want attitude rather than the current banality,” is how one Seven insider described the planned changes.

Cornes is likely to be joined by former Hawthorn premiership captain Luke Hodge, who is the network’s main Friday night analyst on the new show which will raise the bar in hard-hitting opinions.

The signing of the Port Adelaide premiership player and 300-gamer was instigated by Seven’s new director of sport Chris Jones and was his first big statement in the role.

Looks like they are at the ground for game 1, not sure about the 2nd game in Perth

Very disappointing to see the AFLW match featuring the Sydney Swans isn’t on the main channel in Sydney.

Gold Coast and Brisbane games also on 7mate in QLD. What a shame.

Aaaand it’s taken literally 0 seconds for there to be a graphics issue, with no scorebug.

Scoreboard working fine in Brisbane.

The scorebug software keeps crashing. This is a very amateur set-up. Not sure why it’s so hard to get right as this rarely happens for AFL games.

Where are you guys watching? It’s honestly working fine in Brisbane.

Pay a bit more attention to it and you’ll see it dropping in and out. It’s better than it was before. Seriously, how hard is it to get it right?
