Didn’t they already show the Brownlow and AFL GF on 7+ this year Or was the Brownlow limited to certain devices like the grand final last year?
No it was the same as this year, unsure why they are advertising this as new…
I think they are basically saying from that moment on you can watch any 7 game on 7+ including into 2025
No I know, I was talking about the Brownlow and GF:
Seven have a vacancy on its Saturday night coverage next season, with the Herald Sun reporting that Hamish McLachlan is relocating to Europe for 12 months.
I wonder who will call alongside Luke Darcy? Jason Bennett? Alister Nicholson? Or could Seven recruit someone new? I’ll throw a couple of names in - Dwayne Russell from SEN and Fox Footy, or Mark Howard from Triple M and Fox Footy (Howard and Darcy already call Friday nights on MMM together).
I think Alister Nicholson will call Saturday night matches alongside Luke Darcy next year.
Hamish’s absence also means someone else will host Seven’s coverage of Thursday night and Friday night matches in 2024.
That’s a big role to fill. Hamish does Thursday hosting, Friday Auskicker, Saturday Commentary + hosting, other blockbuster hosting + commentary like Kings Birthday etc
Commentary wise it’s probably going to be Al Nicholson replacing him permanently & 7 might get someone in a part time role to do what Al Nicholson did this season
Hopefully permanently after 12 months.
He’s not that bad.
No way Fox are letting these two go, Saturday’s are their bread and butter.
Nicholson ideally would get the gig. Audiences love him, he’s competent, what more could you ask for.
I can see Nicholson taking over the commentary and maybe Bennett taking over some of the hosting jobs like Thursday night because he has done many MCing of functions etc
According to the article, He will open the 2024 season but will be in France for majority of the year. And will return for events such as ‘magic millions’ in Jan and AFL finals.
Also according to the article. Theo Doropoulos has also been brought in as Mitch Cleary’s deputy.
Plus Howie being (sadly) the voice of Fox Cricket
7 will still need someone to take Nicholson’s place, otherwise they only have BT, Brayshaw, Bennett, Darcy & Nicholson as their play by play.
Maybe Tim Lane? He’s already part of their cricket. Might have Andy Maher (I hope not)
It’ll be interesting to see if Talking Footy is back next year.
Andy calls matches for AFL Nation radio (you may have heard his commentary of this year’s finals featuring Carlton) so anything is possible.
Pairing him and Luke Darcy on (say) Saturday nights would be a throwback to Ten’s coverage. Darcy, though, didn’t do play-by-play during his time at Ten, rather providing special comments which he started doing in 2005/06 while sidelined due to injury.
It’ll be strange not having ‘Hame’ (or ‘Hammer’ ) around, he’s been at the network’s sporting forefront since about 2013 (aside from Bruce and certainly since he became unwell/stepped down from large roles). I guess also a year with minimal significant sporting coverages for Seven, especially for Hamish. CMO will be over the moon LOL.
He has been at Seven since 2008; his first job was being a courtside reporter at the Australian Open, later becoming host of AFL Game Day and then of course stepping up to co-commentate Saturday afternoon matches with Basil Zempilas in 2012. But yes, Hamish has been at the forefront of Seven’s sporting coverage since 2012-13, anchoring at least two Summer Olympics and Commonwealth Games.
then of course stepping up to co-commentate Saturday afternoon matches with Basil Zempilas in 2012
thanks Basil
