I’ve noticed this year Seven (unless I’ve just missed them) no longer air those LIVE ‘next’ promos (with talent in studio or on ground) for Friday Night Countdown on 7mate before 7pm and Saturday Night Footy Pre Game Show on main channel just before 6:30pm during Seven News. Yet during these shows there are promos for such programming as that night’s movies, even on m/c.
Could it be a tactic to keep viewers for BH&G and Seven News 6.30 ratings? But if so to the detriment of those aforementioned shows and you wonder why they bother, I don’t see them ranking @TV.Cynic?

Surprised the Essendon vs Sydney game isn’t on the main channel in Sydney.
Maybe the Swans vs Bulldogs match which was given main channel treatment in the city last Thursday didn’t rate well, even though Nine had the under-20s Origin?
It appears to have rated (as did Lions in Brisbane), was triple the previous Swans game and more than 5 times the audience of other games in that market recently not involving Swans. If 7mate it’d have been deemed a really good result.
It also compares to NRL games in Melbourne (there’s been a few on main channel) with Storm doing 1/3 those Thursday and Friday Sydney and Brisbane audiences respectively and Adelaide & Perth, and numbers in all 3 markets have also regularly been below 5 figures.
The AFL’s numbers in Sydney are going to make it difficult to justify main channel coverage
I remember once a women’s Origin game outrated the Swans vs Hawthorn game (which was moved to the main channel) on a Friday night in 2019.
To the present and it doesn’t help that the Swans have been out of the right since round six and are likely to miss finals this season.
Meantime, at least the Giants’ next two games, both of which are afternoon matches which will finish no later than 4:30pm, will be on the main channel in Sydney, with the Sydney Derby in round 21 (starting time 7:30pm) also likely to be given the same treatment.
AFLW fixture finally released. These are the games that will be broadcast on 7. (All times Vic based)

That is Kangaroos v Power
Yes my mistake
Only select few matches end up on the main channel. Not sure if that is because Seven have committed to x number of matches to promote the sport in the market. Last few years we have also had one or two non-NSW club matches on Seven Sydney live in prime time. Very unusual unless tied to contractual commitments.
This is the last of three Eagles matches this season to air on delay on FTA in Perth. It will be interesting to see how many Perth viewers bother to watch the telecast given the Eagles are being flogged (again).

Main channel coverage in Sydney on Saturday.
Bit of a rarity this afternoon, AFL on Seven’s main channel in both New South Wales and Queensland and the two lesser/newer local teams in GWS hosting Gold Coast and at Manuka Oval in Canberra, while also being a Fox Sports simulcast (will be fascinating just to see the ratings splits across those markets FTA vs STV tomorrow morning - no doubt at the very low end anyway regardless of result). Plus therefore no Fox mics, generic AFL ones, I don’t think they reference Fox much during these simulcast telecasts bar on some supers and viewers being able to tell its Fox’s studio/talent/graphics, but perhaps not all viewers if you’re not as regular or observant.
They use Fox branded mics for exclusive games that Seven don’t simulcast. Which they are using for the Saints v North game today and for the hawks tigers game yesterday.
Looks like he will still continue until the AFL season ends
Australia wins.
He always came across as one of those Ambulance chasing journalists. No Thanks.
Essentially: any Fox Footy produced game between two Victorian teams.
Tom Browne Tom Browne will be missed. A great news breaker.
