On the topic of Lethal, worth mentioning he’s still very active in the media. He provides special comments for 3AW’s coverage for Friday night and Saturday afternoon matches, and also joins Sam McClure on 3AW’s Wide World of Sports program every Tuesday night. So perhaps it’s a case of Seven not wanting to use Lethal as much as they used to these days, so he can now work more on radio.
From what I’ve read around the traps, 3AW keep him on the books mainly because Ch7 don’t want to use him as much (especially now that Luke Hodge fills that Brisbane local gap for them)
Australia’s biggest brands are ready to kick off Seven unveils 2023 AFL sponsors
The Seven Network is proud to announce the broadcast partners and sponsors for its exciting 2023 AFL season, which kicks off when Richmond take on Carlton at 7.00pm AEDT tomorrow night, live and free on Seven.
In 2023, Seven’s AFL sponsors will reach more than 14 million Australians a year across the biggest games each week. In addition, sponsors will have exclusive access to two of the biggest events on the AFL calendar – the AFL Grand Final and the Brownlow Medal.
Toyota, AAMI, Macca’s, Harvey Norman and Bunnings join Seven’s coverage as broadcast partners.
Sportsbet, Coles, Telstra, Industry Super Funds, Hostplus, CBUS, NAB, Asahi Beverages, Uber Eats, Chemist Warehouse, OMO Ultimate, Cash Converters, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Tradie Underwear and Colgate-Palmolive join as broadcast sponsors, with additional brands signing on as local market sponsors.
FAST channels and new show pages on 7plus’ AFL Hub will create exciting ways for brands to connect with audiences, and 7NEWS.com.au will be a premium destination during live coverage with a brand new match centre and expert analysis.
Seven’s live, free and exclusive coverage of the 2022 AFL Grand Final was the #1 program of the OzTAM survey year, reaching 5.76 million Australians on Channel 7 and scoring an average total television audience of 3.06 million viewers.
Seven West Media chief revenue officer, Kurt Burnette, said: “Seven’s live and free AFL coverage delivers clients the biggest TV marketing opportunity in Australia across the country’s most-loved sport.
“With Seven’s unmatched market proposition, there has been an exceptional level of brand commitment to our AFL coverage this year, with an influx of both returning and new partners coming on board,” he said.
Seven West Media national sport sales director, Rob Maclean, said: “Brands recognise the incredible power and value of Seven’s AFL coverage as the perfect platform to build awareness, target hard-to-find audiences at scale and drive genuine business results.
“Seven’s AFL provides the most powerful 30 second ad break in Australia after every goal, and with our broadcast and digital rights extended until 2031, we can forge strong partnerships with brands looking for consistency and longevity to deliver effective brand outcomes.”
In September 2022, Seven secured the AFL media rights from 2025 to 2031, covering broadcast and – for the first time – digital rights. From 2025, 7plus will be the new home of the AFL for Seven’s dedicated fans and advertisers, offering viewers access the best AFL games and video content, live and free, in a way that suits them.

Both viewers and partners will see the results of Seven’s promise to serve the best content they can, with Maclean and the team working on a number of projects that will bring the AFL to life outside of the linear broadcast.
“Some of the things we’re looking to put in place to revamp that AFL hub of 7Plus, you’ll see things like FAST channels with This Week In Seven AFL, state leagues, and of course AFLW. We will have new show pages to cater to the super fans of each club. Over on 7news.com.au, for instance, we’re launching a brand new match centre that’s going to bring more analysis and behind-the-scenes content for fans to enjoy.”
7 using new mics. It’s Black with red 7 & 7+ a change from usual red mic with white 7
Find it weird to advertise 7+ when people can’t even watch it on 7+ until 2025
The pre and post game coverage is available on 7+
I assume these mics will also be used on Seven’s AFLW telecasts later this year (the matches will be on 7plus).
I wonder when the new AFL Hub on 7plus will go LIVE…
They do but that’s from the commentary booth
Isn’t that meant to be from 2025 (new rights deal) or did they agree on launching earlier?
Brian Taylor and James Brayshaw calling the Richmond v Carlton match tonight.
Seven, Foxtel and Telstra must be pleased with tonight’s season opener, bit of a thriller all the way, fairly high accuracy/goals = lots of ads too I’ve noticed lots of sponsors and different activations, the biggest being the in-program on-ground ‘floating big screen’, also more a theatrical distributor/cinema TV spot for Mario using the famous game’s green pipes leading out of the MCG turf.
All this new “7+” on-air branding is really misleading though, with live stream rights not for another two years. There was an interview at Half Time (a new segment) and pushed viewers to 7Plus for extended.
I also think Seven did decent with alternative selections for those not interested in AFL and market specific too, with Thursday British and Canadian crime mystery steples for older viewers on 7Two, light/factuals and younger on 7mate, even younger, sitcom animations and a movie on 7flix and the relaity and young female content on the new Bravo - we’ll get an idea if these new line-ups have worked tomorrow morning. @TV.Cynic

Oh dear: Copping a large reaction too…
Darren and his friend James had since followed up with another tweet
EDIT: Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph had a different story though.
Is 7 using a new zooming in of plays for analysis? Saw it a couple of times now
8.10 v 8.10 is neither high scoring nor particularly accurate. Corresponding match last year had 25 goals kicked.
ABC reporting the AFL have now prohibited Seven Sport and Fox Sports from these locations for the remainder of this round (where another ~90,000 is expected tonight for reigning Premiers Geelong vs biggest club in the land in Vic Collingwood). All parties working on a solution from Round 2. Used for marquee games.
The broadcasters won’t be pleased tonight, I’m guessing as host broadcaster/producer for tonight’s game that Seven will opt for the big TV studio within the actual Media Centre a level or two below, which is normally used. Wonder where that leaves Foxtel, back to their Fox Footy studios?
Fox in studio. I’d expect Seven to be on the ground at least pre game & media centre at half time.
