The 12:50pm start time allows the Seven Network to broadcast the 2022 Smithy’s VFL Grand Final live on its main channel in Victoria and avoids any clashes with the Charles Brownlow Medal event that evening.
In case the VFL GF may go into extra time?
If there is no extra time, then the VFL GF telecast will finish at 4pm AEST, allowing Seven Melbourne to show the AFLW match between Melbourne and Brisbane leading into the 6pm news.

This means that 7 might broadcast a later AFLW match. Dees vs Lions (4:10pm VIC) instead of their original match which was Pies vs Crows (12:10pm VIC)

According to online guides, the early start to the VFL Grand Final means Seven won’t show any AFLW matches this Sunday in Victoria.
7mate will air two AFLW matches in Victoria this weekend.
Friday: North Melbourne v Geelong (5pm)
Saturday: Fremantle v Carlton (2pm)
