AFL’s thrilling night of nights

Brownlow Medal, this Sunday on Channel 7 and 7mate

The 2022 Charles Brownlow Medal Count is primed to be one of the most thrilling of recent times and the Seven Network will have all bases covered this Sunday night when the winner of the AFL’s highest individual honour is declared.

In a year with no outright favourite, the Brownlow race appears destined for a blanket finish, with leading contenders Lachie Neale, Andrew Brayshaw, Clayton Oliver and Patrick Cripps almost impossible to split.

Seven’s exclusive, live and free coverage begins at 7.00pm AEST Sunday on Channel 7 and 7mate and will be hosted by Hamish McLachlan and Rebecca Maddern, celebrating the first Brownlow Medal at the Crown Palladium since 2019.

Sunday night’s festivities kick off with the Brownlow Medal Red Carpet, with Abbey Gelmi, Dale Thomas and Emma Freedman set to cover all the glitz and glamour.

Managing Director Seven Melbourne and Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “As we look forward to another Brownlow Medal count after an outstanding 2022 season, Seven is primed and ready to deliver a stellar broadcast of football’s night of nights.

“Much like we saw in 2021, this year’s Brownlow field is wide open, guaranteeing a thrilling count right down to the last moment, when Gillon McLachlan reads the winner’s name.

“With the cooperation of the entire network, we’ve assembled a team that will bring viewers all the night’s biggest stories. It’s sure to be a magical night on Seven, Your Home of Footy,” he said.

The Brownlow Medal marks the start of the year’s biggest week of football on Seven as Australia counts down to the AFL Grand Final next Saturday, 24 September. Seven will announce full details of its Grand Final week coverage in the coming days.

Hamish has seemed to go missing a bit this year so surprised he is doing the Brownlow

Not really. Olympic Games and Commonwealth Games commitments have kept him busy, but no reason why they wouldn’t have him do the Brownlow.

Correct. The game is showing on 7mate in the Foxtel EPG. I’m guessing the hosts on 7’s pre-match will alert viewers to switch channels if they want to watch the AFLW game.

Great to have Jimmy Bartel on for tonight’s game. Miles ahead of Luke Hodge who seems to just state the obvious with his analysis.

7mate just went to a movie in Perth? There was a black screen as it was returning from an ad break for at least 30 seconds.

I was waiting for Chris Fagan’s press conference.

Looks like todays AFLW match will be broadcast from the studio

Hosted you mean? Or called too and played in a studio?

Atrocious commentary tonight. Overwhelmingly bias and cheering for Collingwood. Typical shit coverage from seven.

7+ showed the ending of the game on 7mate stream (most likely by accident)

Same bullshit will be on display next week. You hope the Swans don’t fall part next week, commentary will just be mud throwing otherwise.

Yep - and if Seven don’t - it’d be a very smart thing for Fox to experiment with in the new deal where they get their own call for simulcasts.

I know I’d probably pay to have heard Eddie’s heart break just now.
