Apparently the deal has been locked in for some time. I am surprised there hasn’t been a formal announcement yet.
Dusty’s (no, not that Dusty)'s 400th and final AFL match.
Herald Sun reports tonight that Bruce McAvaney will call AFL matches in a special hub built for him in Adelaide, with Brian Taylor commentating at Seven’s Docklands studios, when the season resumes on June 11. The reason is that South Australia’s current border restrictions means McAvaney won’t be able to fly in and out of Victoria.

If Bruce is allowed to leave home, then I reckon a good idea for that ‘hub’ would be Seven’s Adelaide studios, where he could then “cross” to BT and the rest of the team at Docklands during the pre and post match, and half-time.
In Sydney, that game was shown live on 7TWO and then replayed on the main channel at 11:30pm.
It was the first time the Sydney Swans had played a Friday night regular season match since 2003 (when it defeated Melbourne on Anzac Day - oddly that match was broadcast on Ten and henceforth went H2H with Friday night NRL on Nine). With the new broadcasting rights allowing live AFL to be broadcast into Sydney and Brisbane on 7mate from 2012, the Swans have played (and won) plenty of Friday night matches since then.
Big Freeze 6
Monday 8 June on Channel 7, 7mate
The Queen’s Birthday public holiday will have a very different feel for footy fans this year, but fortunately one tradition will remain – with some of the AFL’s biggest names set to again take the plunge for the Big Freeze on Seven.
For the past five seasons, the Big Freeze has been a crowd-favourite pre-match fixture at the Collingwood-Melbourne Queen’s Birthday blockbuster, with FightMND icon Neale Daniher sending a who’s who of the football, sport and media worlds down the slide into Australia’s most famous ice bath.
This won’t be possible this year, but Big Freeze 6 will continue the fight against ‘The Beast’ via a special one-hour broadcast on Channel 7 and 7mate.
On Monday, June 8 – just three days before the AFL season resumes – one player from each of the 18 AFL clubs will embrace the Big Freeze tradition of dressing up and taking an icy plunge: can anyone top Nick Riewoldt’s show-stopping turn as Freddie Mercury last year?
The select group includes a host of the game’s superstars, with the identity of each ‘slider’ to be revealed by their own club in the lead-up to Big Freeze 6.
Speaking exclusively on 7NEWS, Neale Daniher said the coronavirus pandemic had presented some significant challenges but was never going to stop the Big Freeze:
“We have all had to adapt, FightMND have adapted. There will be a slide, there will be a fun event.”
Footy fans can also catch all the teeth-chattering, bone-chilling fun on 7plus, while Seven will screen a replay of a classic Magpies-Demons Queen’s Birthday encounter as the lead-in to the Big Freeze special broadcast.

This is the interview shown on Seven News Melbourne last night in which Neale Daniher announced the new format for Big Freeze 6.

What a load of shit.
What is?
I am surprised Essendon is the only team with 4 games.
Surely they will do the same in SA and just have the prematch on 7mate like they normally do.
As always, interstate sides get shown their games on FTA in home state, so the Ch7 games are predominately VIC heavy so that VIC clubs get some games on FTA.
But there are supporters in other states too…
Meantime, the Swans will have three FTA games and the Giants two. One of those Giants games is their first Friday night match at Giants Stadium vs Collingwood in round four.
They do. I too wish there was some equality in FTA games. But with the financial troubles the AFL, 7 and likely Foxtel are in at the moment we just have to accept the position they are taking. As a supporter of an interstate club in Victoria I always get Kayo during the AFL season and will again this year.
Looks like they have gone with four Ch 7 games in the first 5 rounds (including round 1) Interesting to see what the AFL does with the scheduling of Thursday night football on the next fixture release. There will need to be Fox exclusives back into the Victorian market if it stays with the current Seven (3:5 games a round)/Fox (5.5 games per round) breakdown
They can’t. 7:40 is 7:10 ACDT.
Given the season has been reduced, I suspect it might be 4/5 for the rest of the season
