Hard disagree. BT and JB are brilliant and add excitement to the game. Probably in-line with Seven’s target demographic too.
The only complication next season will be if Hamish McLachlan returns. If Seven don’t want six full-time commentators then someone’s going to have to make way…
BT & JB on MMM is good but on 7 they aren’t the best. Just look at socials during most Friday night. There is nothing positive. Majority of comments are people saying they can’t wait until Fox gets their commentary so they don’t have to listen to BT & JB on 7.
Hopefully 7 doesn’t sack Nicholson or Bennett they are 7’s best & they will definitely be picked up by Fox
This was in The West Australian regarding tonight’s Fremantle v Western Bulldogs game. Luke Darcy will do special comments given his son is involved in the match.
Channel 7 commentator Alister Nicholson will call the game alongside Jason Bennett, with Darcy and Shaun Burgoyne providing expert analysis. Perth sports presenter and The West Australian columnist Ryan Daniels will be on the boundary.
Think JB isn’t too bad on Seven - the issue is more BT’s style works well on Triple M whereas he comes across as a caricature of himself when he commentates on TV.
Because of a delayed AFL game on Channel 7 there (live on Fox Footy), Seven will condense North Melb v Adel Crows into 2 hours, to finish at 5:59pm local.
Then they’re getting the Seven produced night game Frem v WB , starting 6:30pm on 7mate, on the main channel from 6:57pm local.
They probably cut out the half-time coverage, and reduce the Quater Time breaks (i.e. go to ad after quarter finishes, come back at the start of the second).
News usually finishes now just prior to 7pm if there is a 7pm match.
He hasn’t done play by play but analysis is sometimes a reduced role so he won’t be calling the game and less calls of bias commentary from the viewers etc.
Luke Darcy shot to No. 1 national trend online at one stage tonight, as he seems to do every Saturday night, no less his son playing and having a blinder tonight… Oh dear
Now Ryan Daniels (Perth Field Commentator and Seven News Perth sport) is under fire online, also tongue-in-cheek, after his intentional (?) remark to Angus Brayshaw about the Dockers being “punched in the face last week by West Coast”. Brayshaw infamously suffered a nasty facial injury at the hands of Andrew Gaff some years ago, who was suspended with media frenzy.
This is the first Friday night doubleheader of the 2024 season, mainly due to Mother’s Day on May 12. Dockers v Swans will be shown in WA, NSW and ACT, other states and territories will get Cats v Power.
