Seven AFL Coverage

Channel 7 next Year should Broadcast the AFL Draft in a shared agreement with Fox Footy. When was the last Time the draft was Shown on Free to Air TV?

That would require them to stump up more cash, and I doubt they would be willing to do so for an event which, let’s face it, wouldn’t be of huge interest to viewers outside the footy fanatics who would be watching on Foxtel/Kayo anyway.

I don’t think they need to do that. If anything they can do what the afl website had. Their own broadcast but without showing footage as Fox has exclusivity. They did have interviews afterwards etc. That’s something they can do for 7mate on day 1 of the draft.

I doubt that would require paying more as they aren’t showing any footage.

Looks like Mitch is staying with 7 - I never thought he would leave as he’s still their chief AFL reporter

Looks like Erin Phillips will not be part of Seven’s coverage next year after she was announced as Gold Coast Suns’ new general manager of women’s football this morning.

I don’t think it will stop her from being part of the coverage

Yeah probably will still be involved given AFLW training doesn’t start until July or August.

No, AFLW pre-season training actually starts in May.

She’s not a coach or anything. She’s head of women’s footy. So I think she will still be able to do AFL & even AFLW games. She’s not a regular commentator anyways so it’s not like she’s doing media weekly

Grand Finals fever

AFLW and Supercars Grand Finals, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport

The biggest night of the AFL Women’s season has arrived, with the Seven Network bringing fans every moment of the 2025 AFLW Grand Final live, free and in prime time as North Melbourne take on the Brisbane Lions under lights at IKON Park this Saturday, 29 November.

Seven’s live and free coverage begins from 7.00pm AEDT on Seven, 7mate and 7plus Sport, featuring the full Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment, headlined by ARIA Award-winning duo Peking Duk, before the first bounce under the lights.

As well the AFLW Grand Final action, the 2025 Supercars Championship reaches its spectacular conclusion with the BP Adelaide Grand Final across two days from 1.00pm AEDT Saturday, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.

In one of the most tightly contested championship races in years, Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert, Will Brown and Kai Allen all remain in the hunt for the title, setting up a high-stakes showdown on the unforgiving streets of Adelaide.

Seven’s huge week of sport continues with wall-to-wall action across multiple codes, including:

  • Talking W Grand Final edition tonight from 7.00pm on 7plus Sport
  • The Women’s Big Bash League continues heading to the pointy end of the season on Friday night and Sunday
  • A massive Saturday of horse racing

For the AFLW Grand Final, footy fans will be treated to expert insight and analysis from Seven’s esteemed group of AFLW callers and hosts, including host Abbey Holmes, callers Alister Nicholson and Jo Wotton, expert commentator Kate McCarthy and newly appointed Gold Coast SUNS General Manager of Women’s Football and arguably the women’s game’s greatest ever player, Erin Phillips.

Leading Seven’s coverage of the 2025 BP Adelaide Grand Final will be veteran motorsport expert and Sunrise sport presenter Mark Beretta, who will broadcast live from the circuit alongside Supercars co-driver and 7Motorsport host, Jack Perkins, and rally car champion Molly Taylor.

Supercars icons Mark Skaife and Neil Crompton will lead the commentary of the event, with Garth Tander, Mark Larkham, Chad Neylon and Riana Crehan reporting from pit lane.

Seven AFLW Commentator and host of Talking W, Kate McCarthy, said**:** “We are in for an absolute thrill on Saturday night as the two teams who’ve been the benchmark of the competition for quite some time now, North Melbourne and Brisbane both play skilful, high-pressure footy, live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport.

“We all saw last week what Jas Gamer did in the fourth quarter to single handedly will her over the line in a prelim final against Melbourne, a game that was easily their grittiest win of their 26-game winning streak. She has shown before she can do it in a Grand Final and dare I say, will again on Saturday night.

“Then you look at Courtney Hodder who finally earned her maiden All Australian blazer for her incredible 2025 season. She is someone that is a tough match up for anyone and could prove to be handful for North Melbourne.

“Seven’s coverage puts fans right in the heart of it, and with Peking Duk firing everyone up pre-game, the energy around this Grand Final will be on another level and I cannot wait to see who’s holding up that Premiership Cup on Saturday night,” she said.

Seven Supercars expert commentator, Molly Taylor, said: “It all comes down to Adelaide. After a season packed with twists, shocks and razor-thin margins, we’ve got four drivers capable of walking away as the 2025 Supercars champion.

“Broc Feeney, Chaz Mostert, Will Brown and Kai Allen have all delivered impressive performances throughout the year, and now it’s about who can handle the pressure when everything is on the line.

“What makes this so exciting is how different these four contenders are. A young star in Feeney who dominated the Sprint Cup, the ultimate racer in Mostert, the powerhouse form of Brown, and the rise of a future superstar in Allen,” she said.

“Fans are in for an incredible finish. This is exactly the kind of championship battle Supercars is built for – high pressure, high drama and a title that won’t be decided until the final laps on Sunday.”

A missed opportunity here. Given the match doesn’t start until 6.45pm QLD time, Seven should have a 40 minute news bulletin at 6pm (with pre-match entertainment on 7mate), before crossing to the AFLW GF at 6.40pm for the welcome to country and the national anthem.

No Jason Bennett calling the GF? He’s pretty much the voice of AFLW & I’m pretty sure he’s called every AFLW GF

Agree totally. A shame that the AFLW Grand Final is not on the main channel in Brisbane. A 30-40 minute news bulletin is fine for a Saturday night.

Has Talking W been always exclusive to 7plus? I’ve seen the odd repeat scheduled on 7Mate, but am not sure if new episodes have aired on that channel this season?

If Brisbane people want to watch aflw they will watch it on what ever channel it’s on

How many afl fans on this forum have actually sat down and watch a game of aflw

From start to finish…..be totally honest!!!

That’s why it’s in 7mate

Does it really matter when we are talking about the Grand Final (especially one that carries an unmatchable record for the winner)?

Whether it’s a reality show or sports tournament, generally those two words (or “season finale”) carry a lot of weight on its own, and attracts higher-than-average viewerships.

One could relegate AFLW to 7mate all day, even - and I don’t really agree with it, but it’s justifiable - its finals.

Not the GF. It should be on the main channel if the alternative is non-top-rated repeat or movie.

And Seven isn’t really shy from making a thematic block connecting two programs together. (“Biggest night of love” etc.)

Don’t talk about the W having a long way to go when this is the obstacle standing in the way.

It’s a high bar to reach but I’d love for it to outrank Seven’s movie doubleheader.

I’ve been to games & finals this season and previously too. I think 7 should start the game on 7mate and swap it to 7 after the news like they are doing with SA.

Me, several times.

I think it should be on the main channel in Brisbane if it’s on the main channel in Melbourne, which it is.

I understand new priority. They have the same in SA but it should be like SA where at 7pm QLD, the game should be moved to 7.

Explain why Nine continues to air NRLW games on its main channel despite the lower ratings. Almost anything Nine could schedule would outperform NRLW, yet they still choose to feature it prominently to build the sport and grow its audience. In contrast, Seven not only avoids giving AFLW the same level of support, they won’t even place the grand final on their primary channel.

Meanwhile, Nine has taken significant ratings hits in the southern states by broadcasting both NRLW matches and Pacific Championships games on the main channel - even losing the news timeslot as a result.

If I were the AFL, I’d be questioning why my broadcast partner is so reluctant to back my code when Nine consistently sacrifices ratings to support the NRL.
