Seven AFL Coverage

The encore begins from the “10 seconds before centre bounce” point.

I don’t understand why Seven would choose to do this at all, let alone the awkwardness of it showing in the losing team’s market.

What do they think blacking a market out of a primetime movie would do?

7’s Post game coverage is a bit disappointing. They definitely could have done more in the rooms and been on for longer. I definitely think they used to be on for longer in the past

I feel they could have had a live stream on 7+ for the press conferences etc. even Fox News channel is showing the press conferences

The last time they went past 7pm was 2022, five minutes over.

The last time they went past 7pm by a substantial amount was 2019, 54 minutes over.

So yep, it is the post-COVID norm. We just have to live with it.

(Aside from the fact they loved the sound of their own voices by making the GF brekkie and the pressers 7plus exclusives…)

They used to go later, when they had the post game concert, which was also televised. Mid-late 2010s.

The best and longest post show I ever saw was 2009’s on ONE HD.

Channel 7 next year should simulcast The GFinal Parade with Fox Footy. I think its better then Grand Final day itself?

It’s up on YouTube for anyone who wants to see it.

Closest calls we have. Actual numbers are:

Reach: 6.1 million

Average: 4.08 million (officially MOST-watched since 2021)

BVOD: 969,000

And on that note, Seven managed to retain a significant chunk of the audience throughout the evening. HWW got 628k and the movie got 366k.

Definitely not.

Wasn’t last year’s ratings something like 4.024 million or did I use the wrong metric?

That was last year but that was only the highest result since 2021.

This year’s showdown was the most-watched AFL Grand Final since 2021

Aren’t the ratings over 5million once you include BVOD?

It only became a metric in 2016 so it wouldn’t be exactly apples-to-apples if you want to go back far.

Best to keep using “average”.

Total TV 4 million includes BVOD.

Several Grand Finals have topped 4 million using the old system that was Metro + Regional and the regional was the aggregated markets. The new system includes a larger potential audience. The most recent on Seven was 2016 with Sydney v Western Bulldogs at 4,080,000.

I wouldn’t be including 1996, that was under an even older system, AB Nielsen, which did not use the current peoplemeters.

Seven, AFL and AAMI should be commended on creating what is now a wonderful annual tradition with their Match Ball Ads. Closest thing we have in Australia to Super Bowl style advertising. Probably the only ad in Australia that audience’s eagerly anticipate.

hope that the tradition continues for years to come. Would love to see other brands inspired to create similar advertisements that are an entertaining annual spectacle.

Good to see the dress standards improve with a shirt and tie. I have not enjoyed the very relaxed dress code for 7 this year.

According to 7

Because they go with the initial 2021 figure of 3.91 million.

Adding 7plus and it would be 4.11m.

Although almost all publications went with the second figure as the outright one.
