Seven AFL Coverage

Makes sense, 7WA’s call is supposed to be Perth-biased, not sure Gold Coast Suns fans would appreciate that.

Woah! Triggered much?

The station callsign is still HSV, so it’s not inaccurate to call it HSV or Seven Melbourne.

I thought this was already discussed ages ago?

I wonder what will happen for national FTA games from Perth. Will Seven fly over the VIC 7AFL commentators or use the Perth based team?

This setup might be coming from the smaller Studio 2 located at Collins Street.

I would imagine News Updates and Sunrise / Morning Show Live Crosses will come from here in the future. Only speculation.

I think their normal commentary. I think the WA call is supposed to be for the home team so they probably don’t want that to be the national/world feed.

The 7+ mini match highlights is the Fox broadcast and not the 7 broadcast. I wonder if the full match replay for WA is the same or if that is the 7 broadcast

Saw this graphic over the weekend on the AFL FB page - highlights how ridiculous this new rights deal is if AFL need to produce graphics like this:

Hurts my head just looking at this.

Oh, geez. That does look messy.

And am sure the AFL would have got a lot of complaints from fans, wanting to know where to watch Saturday games - hence the table.

If you wish to see how your AFL team is going in Victoria and Tasmania on Saturday nights, you need to pay to watch, or buy tickets and attend a stadium to cheer on your team. Otherwise, you miss out on what Saturday Night Footy has to offer.

What a joke! Will Channel 9 capitalise on this and show the NRL on their main channel in Victoria and Tasmania on Saturdays? NRL popularity in VIC/TAS about to increase?

Very disappointing to see Saturday arvo/night AFL games go behind a paywall. May as well declare it now, consider this the beginning of the end of the AFL on FTA TV in Victoria and Tasmania, and if they’re not careful, probably nationwide.

That and the emergence of Kayo and Fox Sports. Those who are cashed up will certainly benefit from Kayo being the exclusive broadcaster of the Saturday AFL matches. But not everyone can afford to pay for a Kayo subscription just to see one AFL game, all because Seven have decided to stop showing the Saturday games. So I can imagine those who can’t afford a monthly subscription to Kayo (or can’t afford tickets to go and see the game at a stadium) will lose out. Their only solution? Watching the NRL on Nine or 9Gem.

It has been pleasing to see the endless complaints about the rights deal on social media. They’ve really stuffed all of this up with this dodgy deal. They just caved into the incumbents without any thought.

It’s Fox Broadcast!

Given they also don’t have the rights to Saturday NRL matches for the first half of the year? Probably not.

Hmm, that means no footy (both leagues) on Saturdays via FTA TV then. Thanks.

VFL: with the Seven Network broadcasting no AFL on Saturdays, Jason Bennett will call the Saturday night VFL games on 7mate in Victoria (and 7plus Sport nationally). And he’ll have Nigel Carmody next to him, working their 10th season together. Great result.

Sounds like Jason Bennett will only be calling the Saturday night VFL on a regular basis and won’t really commentate for men’s AFL games.

Though I think Jason might be called up from time to time to call AFL matches (say, for example, in BT’s absence).

Let’s not forget that Seven got what they wanted from the deal - Thursday Nights.
