Here’s SEN’s Full Commercial Licence Digital Stations in Sydney & Melbourne:
SEN 1116 (Main Station in Melbourne, on DAB in Sydney as SEN Melbourne).
SEN 1170 (Main Station in Sydney, on DAB in Melbourne as SEN Sydney).
SEN Track (1539 Sydney & 1593 Melbourne) on DAB in Both Cities.
SEN Fanatic, Only Broadcasting in Melbourne, with Niche Sports.
2CH (Heritage Station), Only Broadcasting in Sydney playing Classic Hits of the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s.
Most likely soon to also be SEN 693 in Brisbane with 4KQ on DAB.
Yeah if they want to turn the No.2 station in town into the bottom rating station.
Yeah a real shame… I can see 4kq and 2ch sharing the same playlist which might be a bonus in Sydney. The audio quality of 2ch on dab is average as SEN needs to pack in lots of stations in Sydney.
Yes the sound quality has gone right down on 2CH, since SEN first bought it. It sounds awful.
Pretty much everything for 2CH has gone downhill since SEN bought it. Sadly I cannot see the grand old lady 2CH lasting much longer (and it’s her 90th birthday tomorrow … will she see 91 ?)
The log is quite good on 2CH but the sound quality is so poor. This may change if SEN manages to buy or lease more DAB spectrum down the track. Smooth Relax and Smooth FM on the other hand sound excellent on DAB.
What bitrate and codec are used for 2CH?
Bitrate: 48kbps
Codec: HE-AAC v2
I remember it being in 128k , it sounded great. SEN 1170 AM even sounds average. Even 2sm sounds better on the AM Band.
I’m not so sure, they are very different sounding stations. I think in the short term at least, SEN would keep unique logs on each station, but in the long term it could be shared to compete with ACE.
I actually think it sounded better just after SEN bought it and when it was on DAB only, and the bit rate reduced to 48kbps. It was a few months after SEN bought it when the sound quality became dreadful to fit in the extra stations.
I think the quality went down when they moved 2ch to a different office ( I think North Sydney).
Speaking of 2CH, Today Marks the Stations 90th Birthday. https://radioinfo.com.au/news/2ch-is-celebrating-90-years-broadcasting-to-sydney/
From Radioinfo:

The two-hour show announced last year is hosted by WA sporting greats Paul Hasleby and Damian Martin.

I kept forgetting to check, but I checked this afternoon when driving through the Central Coast, SEN Track 801kHz is off air, the power has been out at & around the site due to flooding since Friday last week.
I don’t know how long the generator went for, or even if it ran at all, but the site is dead as a dodo right now.
This site floods when the lake rises, the transmitter is upstairs in the transmitter building, but the generator is downstairs (I’m pretty sure), so it might be flooded out itself?
The Masts, themselves are mounted atop a concrete base about 2.5m high, along with the antenna tuning unit, so the lake would have to get pretty high for them to flood & short out.
5000 radios in Kalgoorlie? May as well go door to door.
Is the radio giveaway because nobody has AM radios anymore? Or because nobody’s radio goes beyond 1600AM?
