SEN (Radio)

I thought SEN explored buying RSN927 about 6 months ago and in the end the various racing bodies that owned the 3UZ licence did an ownership shuffle rather than sell to Hutchy.

Very well thought out post. It has so much potential. For example I am more of a cricket fan, I don’t think live tennis is great on radio, why promote every ball of the Big Bash, then change their mind? Why cut off the ashes on a Sunday night after spending so much money on it? It is confusing and bizarre. At least with the Ashes there were alternatives.

Why aren’t there any alternatives? Like I thought surely they’d provide commentary of the big bash still?

There is a BBL match on tonight. Let us see if they have an alternative.

Looking at SEN’s live sport guide which has been updated in the past few hours, it appears they won’t have any coverage tonight but will have all 3 games tomorrow (the first two on both 1116 & 1170, the third one on 1116 only with tennis on 1170).

As a result of Garry Lyon & Tim Watson deciding to reduce the number of days they present SEN 1116’s breakfast show, the station will have three different breakfast shows this year:

  • Monday’s: Garry & Bucks (Nathan Buckley) - beginning February 28th

  • Tuesday - Thursday: Garry & Tim - returns March 1st

  • Friday’s: Kane (Cornes) & Kingy (David King) - beginning February 4th

Three different breakfast shows running across five days. That’s one way for SEN to slide down further.

Clearly the wheels are starting to fall off at 1116SEN.

I thought they only just re-signed Garry & Tim for a longer period??

I’m not so sure about that. It’s still a very niche breakfast show serving the most ardent of footy supporters but I think it will still have an audience.

Garry at least is still 4 days a week so there’s some consistency there. Also I think Garry and Bucks first thing on Monday morning reviewing the last round sounds enticing and worth a listen. More so than if it was just Garry and Tim on Monday.

Nathan Buckley is a fresh face in the media having only really done some media work in 2008 between his playing and coaching career so I wouldn’t under estimate the draw card of that Monday show.

I Worked out that SEN Top End on 1611 am seems to be taking a WA feed, having the Summer Breakfast show on at 2:30 PM NT time. They are taking the WA feed but local weather and ads.

SEN have no attention to detail on what product is going to air. I’m sure most wouldn’t care, very few listening.

Yeah no,um, we, er are, um um, yeah no! Very ordinary I give it a miss now. Love him or loathe him Kevin Bartlett is sorely missed as is Mark Fine at night.

How and where does SEN find money and resources to get another brekkie announcer in Sydney?

They must surely be making SOME money from 1170AM.

There’s lots of money in gambling, SEN exists to feed that, hence the expansion into racing.

SEN had a bit of personality back in those days - KB doing mornings, The Run Home covering drive, and Finey’s Final Siren was must-listen radio on the days where Richmond/Collingwood/Carlton/St Kilda (especially) copped an especially nasty loss. It was great theatre for those of us not overly aggrieved by the weekend’s footy scores listening to those calling in who were.

I agree. Since those people especially Fine got axed by Mr Ego Hutchy, I’ve switched the dial
