SEN (Radio)

1170 is the same, but they could have aired the Kings vs Hawks game that’s being played tonight. Air it nationwide.

SEN sponsors the Kings. Hoops Capital and the NBL had better review the coverage they’re getting from Hutchy’s lot.

Depends if there’s a call of it though.

There’s not. That’s the point,

Sponsorship does not necessarily equal broadcast coverage.

But, I guarantee if there was a BBL game scheduled on Xmas night, they’d do a call.

I know. Just look at the Jets sponsors, none of them air Jets games. They air on Bar TV audio.

But for a sports station, choosing to air pre-recorded stuff instead of, you know, live sport, is bizarre. Or would be, if SEN 1170 didn’t do this already.

No wonder SEN 1170 doesn’t rate. They haven’t endeared themselves to the Sydney market.

It’s cheap and mounting live sports coverage is expensive - which is why the niche stuff like NBL is first to be flicked.

I do think you’re right though - if you’re SEN, you need to make a splash as much as possible.

Couldn’t even be bothered to do an in-studio call with cheapo freelancers.

SEN 1170 will never rate when they’re running it the way they are.

If they already have the rights, then the actual live call would/should be dirt cheap to do.

On Christmas Day, for a niche sport, for a small audience, paying penalty rates to staffers? I’m not advocating it but I can see why it was put in the too hard basket.

Or at least do it via an “Interactive Studio” like what 2GB’s CCT have done in the past… just calling it off the TV broadcast.

Knowing SEN it would 4 staff - 2 callers, 1 OB Producer and 1 Studio Panel Op.

You’d be charging network-wide ad rates, so should cover the cost easily.

To their credit, SEN has updated their Sunday schedule faster than any other broadcaster in the wake of the match’s early finish. All times below AEDT.

Adam Collins and Bharat Sundaresan will host from 9am-noon, followed by simulcast of SENTrack’s Sunday Trackside.

BBL coverage starts 6pm - no change there.

Wish SEN had a better schedule system in its app. The user experience sucks.

Don’t listen normally in the regular season, so pretty surprised when I tuned into SEN and hear Fox injury music. Likely just a retransmission of TV feed.

Good that no American national radio broadcasters carry these games. Oh wait…

Wdym? Anyone doing an off-tube call probably gets the comms-less audio feed from the host broadcaster.

No, they are actually the audio coming from US television. I can confirm the identical voices.

The same voices heard on CBS is on SEN right now and that means the same practice was done yesterday.

It makes absolutely no sense.

It’s SEN.
It’s Australian radio.
When have we ever seen or heard either of them do something that made 100% sense.

Poor form Sam Thompson, the daughter of Paul Thompson, she really should know better.

Must be doing a Julia Gillard, in a male dominated environment, swimming with the current than setting the standard on her own course.

Hasn’t been many occasions since.

The Brisbane adage; is it true or did you read it in the courier mail rings true again.

Some “scoop” that was as claimed by the newspaper. Short of real news, make some up.
