SEN (Radio)

Most SEN stations across Australia and NZ will broadcast the three-match netball international series between Australia and England, starting with game one at Adelaide Entertainment Centre tomorrow (Thursday) night. Game 2 is at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon and game 3 at Bendigo Stadium next Wednesday night.

Even though SEN recently signed a new radio deal with Cricket Australia which covers women’s internationals, the network decided netball would have priority, even though the first women’s T20 match between Australia and NZ is on the same night.

Makes sense considering they now own a domestic netball team.

Can’t run on digital?

No cricket on digital including SEN Fanatic.

Listen to SEN Hobart a little bit over the weekend. Felt like mainly SEN Track programming, but heard their Saints v Dees AFLW call today.

1629 AM drops out a little near Bellrieve, and lost the signal in the car about 5 minutes out from Hobart Airport.

Really good coverage from Matt White, Paul Dumbrell and Jimmy Smith (for the first 3 hours) of the Bathurst 1000. Thoroughly enjoyable and I might say more entertaining than the tv call.

Are they on a year-to-year contract only?

No longer owned by SEN so maybe not the right thread.
But anyway, SENZ have failed to make any inroads in the NZ market and the brand really makes no sense there/has fallen flat.

Why would SENZ drop the SEN branding?

Not unless they’re getting ready to offload?

I do quite often - used to love Radio Sport when it was running in NZ, and I recently enjoyed the Talksport 2 coverage of the NZ vs India test series which combined UK (Talksport) and SENZ commentators.

I also listen to Fox Sports Radio quite a bit - used to be loyal to ESPN Radio 10-15 years ago but its quality and, I guess you could say, commitment to radio has diminished in recent years. FSR tends to now be the best overall package in the US for my liking, if a bit over-the-top at times compared to what we might be used to in Australia, but it’s 24/7 live compared to ESPN.

Infinity Sports Radio (which until recently was CBS Sports Radio) is another US network, which is picked up by several of the Canadian sports stations in their overnight hours and is a good alternative also from the little I’ve experienced of it. Better variety of sports covered than FSR and ESPN which tend to focus almost solely on NFL/NBA/MLB.

I listened to The Mightier 1090 from San Diego before they closed down.

I might start looking for a small town US sports station to listen to again soon, but for now, it’s Classic KABL - The sound of San Francisco
