SEN (Radio)

Do you know when EPL games are played?

SEN already take the afternoon timeslots via TalkSport, but there are a number of other odd-spots that the Premier League (and their partners in Sky, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime) use to get around the fact that there is still an FA-enforced ban on Saturday afternoon TV games (that’s partly to stop it usurping the EFL, and both usurping “non-league” football on the fifth and sixth tiers and what-have-you). Maximises the rights money within England, although to be fair that is possibly a small fraction of what the Premier League get in terms of worldwide rights.

Those would be the games I’m talking about, games mainly in evening slots there (as late as 8pm local time, 7am here during summer) and therefore would be encroaching on the tradies’ hour and Breakfast, primarily, if played on 1116 et all. You wouldn’t lose a lot of Whateley, admittedly. Saturday night games wouldn’t really be a worry because Sunday morning on SEN is a graveyard, but they aren’t all on Saturday night - and also a little affected at late notice by European competition at times.

Tottenham does have two Wednesday morning games scheduled to start at 6:45am and one scheduled 5:45am game (east coast time), so it is a legitimate question to ask what will happen with these games.

Gerard won’t ever be affected…

Sorry I forgot about daylight savings and nice timed breakfast games. :man_facepalming:

Shuffled over to the SEN Fanatic stream most likely, much like most of the FIFA Women’s World Cup games atm.

SEN Fanatic is hosting a Matildathon tomorrow

Reminds me of the ‘good old days’ of DAB with pop-up channels galore

Netball fans will be able to enjoy unprecedented coverage of the Suncorp Super Netball competition, with SEN to broadcast a ‘Match of the Round’ each week and every match of SEN’s newly acquired eighth SSN Team across its radio and digital platforms.

SEN’s radio coverage of the Diamonds will begin in October, with the newly crowned World Cup winners playing two international test series.

Good move by SEN considering all the recent hype with the Matilda’s & womens sport.

Wonder how often SEN owned Melbourne 2 will end up in the match of the round?

The presser above suggests both a MotW and their new SE Melb team will be covered, so it’s quite possible they’ll be doing two a week.

I imagine it’d be shuffled off to Fanatic or an alternate app stream though, as it conflicts with AFL season.

An idea I have is that SEN should turn SEN Fanatic (or another of their DAB+ channels) into SENW.

They attempted to create SENW as a podcast channel, but I think that fell by the wayside?

With SENW (remember, these digital channels usually don’t make any money anyway), you through the live coverage of AFLW, Netball and other live women’s sports on this channel.

You then reach out to the various women’s sports podcast around the world, and offer them the airtime for nothing. So, basically, besides live sports, the rest of the programming is podcasts and repeats of interviews with women athletes. A low cost operation.

Fking shut-up and take my money.

SEN is definitely not the station I thought would come out with merch.

And oddly enough, that really sounds like it started with SEN Track and not the mainline station - I certainly heard the merch promoted there first. It’s strange.

If they sell a hoodie with the defunt NRL Nation logo on it, I’ll buy it. I did spot one of their commentators wearing something like that on their social media earlier this year.

Solvency might become an issue if things continue the way they are.
Financing station purchases isn’t cheap and the interest rates aren’t going to get any better any time soon.

I give SENZ six months.

The only thing I find surprising is why it took News Corp two weeks to report on this - the numbers went out to market on 31 August.

Not that they seem great numbers at all considering the relative spending splurge last year. SENZ being practically written off (I’m not sure if it was “all of it”) doesn’t bode well for that.
