One month on - some more promos:

SBS promos are using the terms ā€œSBS World Movies Premiereā€ (for movies that have aired on another network in the past but not SBS) and ā€œFree To Air Premiereā€ (for FTA first run movies).

Examples tonight with ā€œThe Ice Stormā€ (for the former) and ā€œShin Godzillaā€ (for the latter).

#ICYMI Quentin Tarantino will be presenting a series of films on SBS WM this month. https://www.sbs.com.au/movies/article/2019/07/18/watch-60s-films-inspired-tarantinos-once-upon-time-hollywood

Just saw promos running before, they’re movies set in/around the same period that his new movie ā€œOnce Upon A Time In Hollywoodā€ is in, out in cinemas at the moment :+1:

Must say, this channel has one of my favourite on air presentations at the moment.

It looks bloody good!

The countdown clock till next program split screen thing is great, also keeps end credits.

Would be perfect if they could reduce the ads to say, one 5 minute break per hour, or a 10 minute intermission at the middle of the movie (with a ticker to when the movie will continue).

I thought they got money from the government for this station

Disappointed this channel only rated 0.6% last night (although yes Ashes cricket, Block launch, AGT strong and lots of there’s not helping), was an outstanding movie on, so so good!

I (probably bias ) recommend this new channel, give it a watch. A mix of foreign language hits and indie Hollywood hits, many first runs or network premieres too.

Yeah I found myself glued to it a few nights back as well. I forget the name of the movie but it was about a young drummer going to music school and being hammered by his asshole of a teacher. Was a really good flick. I don’t think I would have ever watched it otherwise.

Whiplash?

Ooh! I’ve wanted to watch this, will add to the list. Must say, JK Simmons is a terrific actor.

Ok I read that the wrong way

On other matters - I did watch most of one featuring one of the flight of the Conchords guys a few weeks ago which was good - and I’m not a movie watcher

And coming up on SBS World Movies to name just a few:

-ā€œLantanaā€ (2001) acclaimed Aussie thriller from Ray Lawrence, which swept the AFI Awards. Stars Geoffrey Rush, Kerry Armstrong, Anthony Lapaglia and American Barbara Hershey.

-ā€œWhat Maisie Knewā€ drama starring Academy Award winner Julianne Moore and Alexander Skarsgard. Highly recommended, a wonderful story!

-Premiere of ā€œEverything Must Goā€, a more mellow than usual comedy with the great Will Ferrell.

My only bugbear with it is that it’s far too big - there’s no need for it to take up half the screen

Think either of them would be far too long for an ad break to last for. It reminds me of the UK model where they have fewer ad-breaks per hour but they last longer (around 4 - 5 minutes) - as someone who watches a fair bit of UK TV, I can attest that those breaks often feel too dragged out

I’d say you’re biased…
