Faithless
Australian Premiere Box Set Thursday 27 March 2025 on SBS On Demand
(All six episodes available at launch)
A searing tale of love and betrayal, adapted from a script by multi-Academy Award-winner Ingmar Bergman (1918-2007), one of the most influential filmmakers of all time.
In May 1995, following the death of his wife, Ingrid, an aging Bergman sat down at his desk, pen in hand, and began working on what would become one of his final screenplays. Faithless is said to be inspired by events that took place in 1949, and by Bergmanâs relationship with Gun Grut (later Gun Bergman). In Bergmanâs autobiography, Laterna Magica (1987), he noted she was the inspiration behind many of the strong female characters in his body of work. Faithless was made into a feature film directed by Liv Ullmann, which premiered in competition at the 53rd Cannes Film Festival in 2000.
Now, acclaimed Swedish director Tomas Alfredson (Let The Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) has reinterpreted Bergmanâs original screenplay from scripts adapted by Norwegian writer Sara Johnsen (22 July).
The story is told across two time periods. In the present day the renowned director David Howard, 73 (Jesper Christensen, Quantum of Solace, Spectre), is reunited with his former great love, actress Marianne Vogler, 75 (Lena Endre, played the Marianne role in Ullmannâs Faithless, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo). Their encounter forces them to confront the painful repercussions of their past relationship, not only for themselves but also for their families. 40 years prior a young David (Gustav Lindh, The Northman, Queen of Hearts) and Marianne (Frida Gustavsson, Vikings: Valhalla) find themselves entwined in a passionate love affair, which they must keep a secret as Marianne is married to Davidâs best friend, Markus (August Wittingstein, The Crown, Das Boot).

The Black Forest Murders
Australian Premiere Box Set Drop Thursday 8 May 2025 on SBS On Demand (Four episodes)
The Black Forest Murders is a drama combining the events of real-life criminal cases, which rocked Germany, into a gripping fictional police drama focusing on the meticulous work and psychological toll on those involved in investigations.
A young woman goes missing. After an intensive search, her body is found, beaten to death. Detective Barbara Kramer (Nina Kunzendorf) from the police in Lauburg, Baden-WĂźrttemberg, and her team, including Thomas Riedle (Tilman StrauĂ) begin the search for the perpetrator, talking to witnesses and gathering evidence. Although the team grows into a large special investigation unit, securing hundreds of leads and trying to make connections, the investigation seems to lead nowhere. In addition, the special unit must deal with a second murder, of which it is not clear whether and how it is related to the first. And parallels to a similar case in Austria that took place four years earlier become apparent. Under the eyes of a worried public, the police officers have to keep asking themselves whether any new information can be expected and where it can be found.
Episode 1: A village on the hunt - Stefanie Berghoff from Buchingen has been missing for 17 hours when the Lauburg police station begins the search. Chief Inspector Barbara Kramer and her colleague Thomas Riedle coordinate the search along the young womanâs jogging route. The longer they search, the more important it becomes to secure evidence, find witnesses and prevent the many volunteers, including Berghoffâs husband and her father, from trampling on clues. When the young womanâs body is finally found in the forest, she has already been dead for 72 hours, killed by use of force, weapon unknown. Forensics and criminal technology begin their work.
The series is written by Robert Hummel and Martina Mouchot and based on a non-fiction book, SOKO Erle, written by investigator Walter Roth.
The Black Forest Murders will be available to stream free on SBS On Demand in German with English subtitles.

Families Like Ours
Australian Premiere Box Set Drop Friday 20 June 2025 on SBS On Demand (Eight episodes)
Families Like Ours is the first television series from Thomas Vinterberg, director of the Academy Award- winning film Another Round. The drama considers what might happen if an entire country had to be evacuated, scattering the population across the globe and turning Vinterbergâs home nation of Denmark into just a memory.
Set in a not-too-distant future, the rising water levels can no longer be ignored and Denmark needs to be evacuated. As people disperse in all directions, they must bid farewell to what they love, what they know, and who they are. Slowly but steadily, everything changes. All property becomes worthless, all fortunes shift, and luck favours only a few. Those who can afford it travel to affluent countries while the less well-off depend on government-funded relocation to more challenging destinations. Families, friends, and loved ones are separated. Some will be overcome by hatred and division, while others will nurture love and foster new beginnings.
Against this backdrop we meet Laura (Amaryllis August), a high school student in love for the first time and on the cusp of graduation. When news of the evacuation breaks, the course of Laura and her familyâs lives are changed forever, and Laura is forced into the impossible dilemma of choosing between the three people she loves the most â her divorced parents Fanny (Paprika Steen) and Jacob (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) and her boyfriend Elias (Albert Rudbeck Lindhardt).
Vinterberg directs the series which he wrote with Bo Hr. Hansen .

Gittoes began working in Afghanistan in 1999 and in 2007 made the film The Miscreants of Taliwood as a protest against the Taliban attempting to destroy the Pashto Film Industry. Since then, together with his wife he has made two more documentaries there Love City, Jalalabad and Snow Monkey and created the Yellow House Arts Centre.
Gittoes says: âWhat makes this film different to any of my previous documentaries is that I have used time as a plastic element. Yellow House Afghanistan has become a TIME MACHINE with characters who were teenagers in 2011 participating as adults in 2024. In one case a 13-year-old, first-time-filmmaker, sees himself, in Love City as a newborn baby. In my own case I transform, on camera, from middle age to a 75-year-old. It has been a long journey. Our aim with Yellow House Afghanistan is to show how art and communication can succeed when war has failed.â
