Gourmet Farmer - Season 5

Premiere Thursday 1 August at 8.00pm

Farmer and chef Matthew Evans realised a long held dream when he built his farm to table restaurant on his 70 acre Fat Pig Farm, but the quality of his food is only as good as his farm soil, so Matthew has taken up the challenge of improving the health of his farm’s soil, naturally.

Over the course of a year and four seasons, we follow Matthew as he designs and refines a long-term regenerative agriculture plan to maximise the land he can sustainably farm, by controlling the damaging effects rain water runoff through landscaped terracing , developing ingenious new ways to replenish his soil with natural fertilisers and native plants and he even manages to tackle his farms runaway infestation of noxious Blackberry weeds without using a single chemical herbicide. Matthew Evans is literally starting from the ground up to transform his food and his farm, leaving it more productive and healthier for future generations come. From foodie to farmer, to chef to rehabilitator of the land. It’s one man versus nature, how hard can it be?

Untold Australia - Season 4

Premieres Wednesday 7 August at 8.30pm

Can six individuals with intellectual and learning disabilities learn to love, and be loved? What lies behind the hidden world of the funeral industry? Can family ties suffer in the battle between old and new values? Can one transgender woman’s trailblazing mission change the face of a conservative country town?

This August, the fourth instalment of SBS’s critically acclaimed documentary series Untold Australia explores the life changing milestones of everyday Australians.

The four-part series premieres on Wednesday, 7 August with Love Me as I Am - a captivating and thought-provoking journey into the world of love and romance. Six unique individuals with intellectual and learning disabilities embark on a trailblazing relationship workshop, with relationship coach Liz Dore , to help them in their quest for romance.

This will be followed by Turban Legend on Wednesday, 14 August, a deep dive into the world of Indian Australian entrepreneur Manjit Gujral and his thriving, high-energy hospitality and events dynasty in Sydney’s West. With the patriarch nearing retirement and his two ambitious sons challenging him to modernise, it’s a battle of the old and the new. In this closely entwined family business, if all goes well there’s magic on the horizon. If not, they have everything to lose.

On Wednesday, 21 August, observational documentary The Secret Life of Death lifts the lid on one of the last great taboos - death. The documentary opens a rare window inside one of the oldest family-run funeral homes in Australia - Walter Carter Funerals. Narrated by Rachel Griffiths ( Dead Lucky, Six Feet Under ), and told from the point of view of two of the funeral home’s youngest and most recent female recruits - one who works with the dead and the other who works with the living.

The series will conclude with Country Town Pride on Wednesday, 28 August that follows the inspirational story of Holly Conroy , a transgender woman from Wagga Wagga, as she bids to stage the first-ever Mardi Gras in this traditionally conservative town. With an official green light from the city council, sponsors, supporters and floats ready to roll, will the locals turn out in force? Or will the town’s conservative population raid on Holly’s parade?

All four documentaries in Untold Australia S4 are produced for SBS with principal production investment from Screen Australia, in association with Create NSW. Love Me As I Am, The Secret Life of Death a nd Country Town Pride are financed with support from SBS.

Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation

Premieres Sunday 11 August at 8.35pm

In August 1969, nearly half a million people gathered at a farm in upstate New York to hear music. What happened over the next three days, however, was far more than a concert. It would become a legendary event - one that would define a generation and mark the end of one of the most turbulent decades in modern history.

Occurring just weeks after an American set foot on the moon, the Woodstock music festival took place against a backdrop of a nation in conflict over sexual politics, civil rights, and the Vietnam War. A sense of an America in transition - a handoff of the country between generations with far different values and ideals - was tangibly present at what promoters billed as ‘An Aquarian Exposition: 3 Days of Peace and Music’.

Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation turns the lens back at the audience - at the swarming, impromptu city that grew up overnight on a few acres of farmland. What took place in that teeming mass of humanity - the rain-soaked, starving, tripping, half-a-million strong throng of young people - was nothing less than a miracle of teamwork, a manifestation of the ‘peace and love’ the festival had touted, and a validation of the counterculture’s promise to the world. Who were these kids? What experiences and stories did they carry with them to Bethel, New York that weekend? How were they changed by three days in the muck and mire of Yasgur’s farm?

Riviera’s highly anticipated return picks up in the immediate aftermath of the explosive first series finale, where the Clios family is faced with the tragic death of one of their own. Georgina very quickly becomes acquainted with the Eltham family, an English dynasty that sail in to the Cote d’Azur, providing its shores with a dose of new money and glamour. She goes on to form relationships with the whole family, some that appear genuine from the outset and others that unravel around her as secrets, old and new, become exposed. Juliet Stevenson takes on the role of Lady Cassandra Eltham, and is joined on the Riviera by her children, the impossibly stylish Daphne (Poppy Delevingne), the brooding Nico (Jack Fox), and Daphne’s husband Raafi (Alex Lanipekun).
