The Mystery Of The Nazca Lines

image

Sunday 18 June 7:30 PM

It is one of the biggest enigmas of modern archaeology - a discovery which gave place to all kinds of theories, and which has not revealed all its secrets yet.

In Peru, 350km south of the capital, Lima, in the valley of Nazca, one can see from the sky gigantic figures representing stylised animals - a hummingbird, a monkey, a spider, a whale, as well as spirals and lines that are several kilometres long.

These figures were nicknamed the ‘lines of Nazca’, and much of its history is yet to be discovered.

Who drew these lines? How, and why? What is represented by these drawings and what is their meaning? From the first explorations to the most recent discoveries by archaeologists, this documentary aims to lift the veil on the mystery of the Nazca lines.

The Real Spies Among Friends

Monday 19 June 8:30 PM

The real story behind the hit drama series A Spy Among Friends starring Damian Lewis and Guy Pearce - this stand-alone documentary on Kim Philby and his fellow traitors who met at Cambridge reveals the worst spy ring in British history.

From Cold War Washington to contemporary Moscow, Beirut backstreets to the salons of Buckingham Palace, the story is as gripping as any thriller.

Kim Philby, Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, and Anthony Blunt were born to privilege, recruited as sleeper spies for Moscow at Cambridge University in the 1930s, and then insinuated themselves into almost every arm of the British secret state where they were able, without suspicion, to leak secrets to Soviet Russia on an industrial scale - their old school ties effectively blinding the British and US establishments to the traitors in their midst.

The film shows how from D-Day to the atomic bomb, they kept their masters in Moscow informed.

How despite finally being unmasked they never faced justice - instead slipping the closing net and escaping to Moscow or in Blunt’s case being allowed, to avoid a scandal, to carry on as a top adviser to the Queen herself! And how Philby had ‘no regrets’ for the victims he sent to their deaths.

Devil’s Confession: Lost Eichmann Tapes

Thursday 22nd June 8:30 PM

A few weeks before the opening of the Eichmann trial, transcripts of recorded conversations that Adolf Eichmann had had with a Dutch Nazi journalist, Willem Sassen, were mysteriously handed over to prosecutor Gideon Hausner.

The conversations were held a few years before Eichmann was brought to Israel by the Mossad.

During the trial, Eichmann tried to convince the judges that he was only a bureaucrat who carried out orders, but in the transcripts, Eichmann was found boasting and proud of his significant role in planning and executing the Final Solution.

For the first time, we will confront Eichmann with himself in full colour, revealing the hidden factors and motives that succeeded in hiding these recordings.

To determine exactly when, and why, this lost masterpiece was built the experts will strip away layers of political, military, and religious history long hidden from view with a single goal: to gather clues beginning as far back as 52 BC in order to digitally reconstruct the Lost Palace, piecing together the size, shape and texture of the palace and discover its hidden surprises by interacting with scientists and historians.
