Starting in the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, he discovers a cuisine that relies on the bounty of the Mediterranean. He visits his family’s hometown of Zetjun, island hops across to Gozo and cooks up his own versions of some Maltese classic recipes.

A Berry Royal Christmas

This one-off treat will offer a unique look into charities that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge support. Joining forces with them will be cookery legend, Mary Berry, as The Duke and Duchess invite her to accompany them on four special visits. Mary will also be cooking some of her favourite Christmas recipes for viewers to try out at home, as she helps prepare the festive food to thank all those working and volunteering over the Christmas period.

The one-off festive special will culminate in a Christmas party, hosted by The Duke and Duchess, and will feature some surprise guests, including Nadiya Hussain.

Ainsley gets the party started with a Cheeseboard Fig Tart, a perfect starter or lunch to make the most of any leftover Christmas cheese. Comedian, singer and all-round star, Brian Conley joins Ainsley as he cooks up a flavour packed meal making that Turkey go even further: his Korean Inspired Turkey Burgers with smashed sesame roast potatoes. Rosemary Shrager takes over the kitchen and puts together a perfect pithivier, an impressive pastry-domed vegetable pie, and comedian Katherine Ryan visits for dessert, a decadent and delicious Spiced Chocolate Espresso Rumtini Mousse. It’s the only way to finish a meal! And to top it all off, the wonderful Olly Smith is there throughout to provide delightful drinks for every dish and some sparkling conversation.

This is the 2024 special which premiered on ITV on Christmas Day.

Before that, Ainsley’s Festive Flavours 2023 special, with guests Joe Pasquale, Jane McDonald, Angela Hartnett and Andy Clark, will be available on SBS on Demand tomorrow (November 21) from 8.30pm AEDT.

In each episode, three local restaurant duos will go head-to-head as they take it in turns to host the others for a three-course dinner and prove they’ve got what it takes to win the £1,000 prize. At the end of each meal, the visiting restaurant pairs will score their host’s dinner out of 20, with the highest scorers overall scooping the prize.
