Streaming first on SBS On Demand and 7pm weeknights on SBS Food

The Cook Up with Adam Liaw, SBS’s most commissioned series, is back with an exciting new season serving up more culinary icons and celebrity friends joining Adam in the kitchen, celebrating First Nations cooking expertise in a very special NAIDOC Week edition, weekly tips to become the ‘host with the most’ and more. The new series will premiere on Monday July 3 on SBS On Demand and 7pm weeknights on SBS Food.

A delightful half hour of cooking and entertainment with a side of laughs, The Cook Up reaches 500 episodes this series, an incredible milestone in just two years, with all previous seasons of the series available to stream now on SBS On Demand.

Every weekday, two foodie friends join host, Adam Liaw. Chefs, comedians, authors, journalists, singers, actors, sports personalities and everything in between: if they love food and a chat, Adam welcomes them into The Cook Up kitchen. This series sees more famous faces in the world of food and entertainment at the benchtop. Guests include culinary stars such as Asma Khan, Tony Tan, Alison Roman, Matt Stone, Khanh Ong, Lucy Tweed, Lara Lee and Andy Hearnden, as well as Australian legends in the world of sports, entertainment, art and social media such as Paralympic athlete Isis Holt, Nina Oyama, Brihony Dawson, SBS’ Alone Australia winner Gina Chick, Michelle Law, Osher Günsberg, Gail Mabo, Esther Song, Adam Spencer and Daen Lia.

We also see Adam cook alongside some of Australia’s finest established and upcoming chefs and have fascinating discussions with the most interesting journalists and personalities from all around the country. Of course, just like in any good kitchen, some old friends have been welcomed back to carry on the cooking and conversation, such as Luke Powell, Linda Marigliano, Tom Walton and Bjorn Stewart.

This season of The Cook Up will kick off with a week-long celebration for NAIDOC Week and for the first time will have a guest host, Nornie Bero of Melbourne’s Mabu Mabu, taking over the reins from Adam for the week. Guests Gail Mabo, Arabella Douglas, Bjorn Stewart, Damian Coulthard, Kristy Dickinson, Jody Orcher, Rowdie Walden, Kirsten Banks, Matty Mills and Christian Hampson will cook delicious food and share stories with Nornie. Nornie will host The Cook Up for NAIDOC week from Monday July 3.

Fridays on The Cook Up will be all about making entertaining at home simple with ‘Easy Entertaining’. The ultimate food and friends half hour to inspire viewers in their own kitchens, every Friday Adam demonstrates how to be ‘hosts with the most’ at home, with guests including event stylist to the stars, Lucy Tweed, Adam Spencer, Nina Oyama and many more.

Presenter, Adam Liaw, says “The public response to The Cook Up has truly been extraordinary. Everywhere I go people tell me that it’s part of their nightly routine. I see people cooking recipes from the show and tagging me on social media daily, people sending their questions in for us to answer on air, and so many parents who tell us their kids watch the show and learn to cook every single night. In Season 5 we’re back with some of the biggest global stars in food, but our focus is always local. We’ve got great ideas for everyday cooking, but we’ll also show you how to throw a great Friday night dinner party, and the food truly reflects how we all cook in Australia. Everything we cook on The Cook Up is real food that really makes sense to Australians. SBS’ continued support for The Cook Up has been incredible, and with Season 5 taking us over 500 episodes we’re officially the largest ever commissioned program in SBS history."

Emily Griggs, SBS Head of Food, says “There’s nothing better than getting together with friends over great food and The Cook Up invites you to do that every episode. This season SBS and The Cook Up team celebrated an extraordinary milestone of 500 episodes. It continues to bring a feast of menu ideas from nibbles through to desserts. Easy Entertaining on Friday nights will provide the ultimate guide to stress-free entertaining, whether you’re hosting a brunch, going on a picnic, hosting a Chinese dinner or celebrating Diwali, Adam’s got you covered.”

An internal SBS production, The Cook Up will be available to stream on SBS On Demand with subtitling available in both Arabic and Simplified Chinese afterwards.

The Cook Up with Adam Liaw will premiere weekdays on SBS On Demand from Monday July 3 and at 7pm weeknights on SBS Food. All episodes from previous series of The Cook Up are available to stream on SBS On Demand.

I didn’t realise The Cook Up is currently on a break. I thought it would just be one season per calendar year.

According to IMDB, they have screened 100 episodes every season for 4 seasons. This is season 5 and they have screened 85 episodes so far so there are likely 15 episodes to go.

Great Australian Bites

Adam & Poh’s Great Australian Bites asks the question: what is Australia’s national dish?

The brand-new series follows the dynamic duo across the country to discover the cuisine behind our culture

Wide open roads, big blue skies, wind in our hair and classic tunes on the car stereo – a good old road trip is hard-wired into Australian’s DNA, and who better to journey with than two of our best and most beloved cooks, besties Adam Liaw and Poh Ling Yeow. In the brand-new series Adam & Poh’s Great Australian Bites, join the dynamic duo as they cover our sweeping plains, epic coastlines, and sparkling cities in search of Australia’s national dish. Stream first from Tuesday 8 August on SBS On Demand and at 8pm on SBS Food to discover the cuisine that’s helped build our history, creativity, and culture.

Adam and Poh start their travels in the heart of Australia at Uluru, moving on to Darwin and Kakadu where they explore Australia’s original First Nations cuisine and subsequent multiculturalism. Then travelling through regional Victoria, the pair gains further insight into the three culinary pillars of any Australian town; a pub, a bakery, and a Chinese restaurant. They head to Tasmania to investigate the great Aussie meat pie, and in South Australia they discover how Australia’s love of café culture took Australian brunch to the world stage. In Sydney surrounded by the icons of Australia, they look at the icons of Australian food and create a truly spectacular cake, before ending up in Canberra – our national capital – to answer once and for all what our national dish might be.

Along the way, Adam and Poh catch up with a stellar list of friends who have shaped both the culinary and cultural fabric of Australia, including Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, iconic artist Ken Done, South Australia’s favourite Maggie Beer, Australian politician and former Wallabies captain David Pocock, the Australian Women’s Weekly’s renowned queen of cookery Pamela Clark, celebrity chef and food icon Elizabeth Chong, TV personality Peter Everett, Australia’s preeminent providore of seafood John Susman, and Executive chef and owner at Pilu At Freshwater Giovanni Pilu.

Get ready to be inspired, whether it be to head to the shops to get ready for dinner, or to a far-reaching town to try the local’s speciality. Australian cuisine isn’t just defined by the latest chef or hottest restaurant, but by what we cook and create ourselves. Afterall, to get to know a country, you must first know its food.

Presenter, Adam Liaw, said: “There’s so much to love about Australian food, but we tend to focus too much on the fancy, cheffy stuff. The heart of Australian food is in the vanilla slice, pub schnitzel and mum’s spag bol. We’re a country where everyone has their favourite laksa place, fights over where makes the best banh mi and has a strong opinion on whether tomato sauce or barbecue goes on a bacon and egg roll. It’s about time we celebrated the food that we all know and love, and I’ve loved getting out on the road with Poh to do just that!”

Presenter, Poh Ling Yeow said: “Travelling across the vast Australian landscape and experiencing myriad food traditions reawakens stories of belonging and migration. From old Chinese restaurants in Ballarat with untouched decades old menus to mind blowing Bahn mi in Canberra. It’s been wonderful to learn of the stuff we’re made of and why I think Australia has one of the most tenacious food cultures in the world. Then to properly hang with some of my trailblazing childhood heroes like Elizabeth Chong and Ken Done was the cherry on the cake.”

Emily Griggs, SBS Head of Food, said: “This road trip is a celebration of Australian food and friendship, with classic takes on some of our favourite dishes. From nostalgic treats like Vanilla Slice to native ingredients, to curried pies and laksa, Tune in to find out why Australia is truly the most exciting culinary destination on the planet.”

Adam & Poh’s Great Australian Bites is an i8 Studio production for SBS and airs Tuesdays from 8 August, stream first on SBS On Demand, followed by 8pm on SBS Food.

SBS and i8 Studios would like to thank the following program partners for their support on this series: Visit Canberra, Tourism NT, Visit VIC, The Ghan, The Spirit of Tasmania, Jeep and Cape Grim Beef.

The series will be available to stream on SBS On Demand with subtitles in Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese.
