Leave the news at 5pm ffs! Just add a late news ffs! Enough with shifting programs around ffs! This forum keeps spinning around!
Certain timeslots are non-negotiable - they are Ten’s biggest hits! They are 5-5:30 and 7pm. The Project 7pm often beats every other news program in demos. Why would you change it? Around other timeslots you could tinker, but not 5 and 7pm!
My favourite schedule is:
4:00 Pointless
5:00 Ten News
6:00 Ten News
6:30 The Project
7:30 Prime Time
a) It provides a half-hour option at 6. b) 6:30 still is the “Ten” brand - fresh and edgy, news delivered differently. It’s not confusing or off-brand. It’s just half a hour of local news at 6. Also, I like Pointless against the 4pm News on Seven and Nine. And, it keeps the famous Ten News at Five.
I like the idea of Pointless being at 5pm. Keep it simple:
5.00pm Pointless
6.00pm News
7.00pm The Project
Top shelf talent in all 3, top shelf production, top shelf promotion.

They tried 90 minutes of news (a 60 & a 30 if you will) in the dying stages of the news revolution - it didn’t work.
-
They tried all sorts of combos between 5&7 throughout the news revolution and were rewarded with a diminished audience that never returned.
-
Yes, they constantly win the key demos that they target, and that’s great — but it’s not a good look on press releases when you’re primary news bulletin is sitting at 45% of the others because only total people get reported.

I maintain that News at 5 stays, but goes national and for a half an hour — think of this as now Ten’s Afternoon Edition. Go to the game show at 5.30, 6 for the Project… give that big comedic alternative to Aldi stories and hard hitting death and destruction. Any heart wrenching stuff on The Project should come after 6.30… then local news at 7, hyper local — no international or national stories, unless they are absolutely major.
2 half hour bulletins means they don’t need any additional staff except for a few producers in Sydney to generate the 5pm… which they’re building up now anyway.
CBS may love news, but they’re not about to drop millions on some cock eyed plan. This will be measured and take a long time to implement. 2020?
Yep, I get your points and I like your thinking
I would add 4:30 to the untouchable as well. Bold and the beautiful wins its timeslot as well.
Im sorry lexington i just dont agree. The project is super successful at 7pm and if this is something ten are considering it could honestly ruin something they already have.
As I said you should fix what is broken first not the slots that aren’t broken.
How about
5:00 Ten News
5:30 Pointless
6:30 Ten News
7:00 The Project
If Pointless is successful it may lead to people forgetting to switch at 6:00… perhaps have no add break between 5:55 and 6:10 (or something similar) to keep people watching. If people miss the start of the News on the other networks they may as well stick around for Ten News at 6:30. This also keeps the current time slots of the few successes they have.
I don’t call another 450,000 total people successful. Not when the others are cracking double that.
There has to be some cake for TEN to eat too.
Which one are you talking about? The Project is often in the top 5 of all demos at 7pm. The 6:30 edition can’t even win feature in the demos and often is beaten by the 6pm program on ten. Why would you then move it to a half an hour earlier.
Im sorry i just don’t agree with this logic. All for ten having a news service in a new slot I just don’t think it should be at the expense of a successful show that drives their primetime schedule. Hey if its news you want chuck it at 8:30 or even 7:30. A time when people actually come home. And slots not occupied by the successful news programs
And then have Bold and The Beautiful fans in uproar
Regardless of what game show they choose, they need to consider the life of a game show is no longer in excess of 10 years, more likely to be no more than 5 years - So if this suggested format of Pointless doesnt work, may be consider a Wheel Of Fortune or Sale Of The Century re-boot. After all if it backs onto the 5pm News, you have the right demographic for either show. Perhaps someone like Hughesy or Rove could host it.
And ever since the late 80s between 6pm and 7:00pm there has been an alternative to news in at least half hour of that hour. For a news to be re-launched between 6pm and 7pm it would need to be at the expense of the first half of The Project, which simply won’t happen
Here’s a recent reminder of what will happen if Ten Eyewitness News airs at 6pm
https://forums.mediaspy.org/t/saturday-3-march-2018/4355/8
In Sydney and Melbourne at 6pm, it rated less than a quarter of Seven/Nine. Is that what you want to see night after night?
And a reminder of the news revolution ratings in 2011.
You just don’t go back to these ideas. It was a complete disaster.
You’ve got to remember that these ratings were only 2 weeks after all they changes were made. You can’t expect everyone to flood to it straight away. These things take time and TEN just didn’t give any of these new bulletins a chance.
I agree Sifon. However, it just got me thinking were CBS behind the news revolution back then? Weren’t they the ones that wanted Neighbours exclusively on Eleven?
There is literally no point of difference between Seven, Nine and Ten between 5 and 7pm with that schedule.
News at 5pm and 7pm. Half an hour for both. Pointless at 5.30pm. Project at 6pm.
There is literally no point of difference between Seven, Nine and Ten between 5 and 7pm with that schedule.
Exactly! Give the masses what they want.
I do like lexington’s suggestion of Local news at 7pm though.
The masses already get exactly what they want with Nine and Seven.
This will be highly criticised which is fair enough. I would probably say the same sorts of things but how about this for something different:
5:00 Ten Afternoon News
6:00 Pointless
7:00 The Project
8:00 Ten Eye Witness News
8:30 Reality Programs - replayed on new digital channel at 7:30 next day
9:30 Light Entertainment/Drama - replayed on new digital channel at 8:30 next day
Why would you wreck The Project 7pm? Why lose a LOT of viewers?
Not sure. There’s the potential for Ten to gain viewers.
Who knows. No mock schedule which I’ve seen posted here has been able to satisfy everyone or every aspect. Ten will have to compromise and pick a schedule which suits them best, or stay with the current schedule. We don’t know.
