The Matildas’ Bronze Medal play off World Cup game drew a linear metro audience of 2.1 million to help propel Seven to another huge +50% Saturday share. The biggest audience was in Sydney while Melbourne didn’t seem to mind the game being on 7Mate with 414k tuning in compared to 163k for the AFL on the main channel.

That saw 7Mate with a 16.9% market share – its highest since August 2021. The result compared to the previous Saturday’s Aus V France that had an adjusted audience of 2.63 million. The AFL number was the lowest Saturday for four weeks.

ABC’s main channel ranked third for the night with Vera and Grantchester making the top 10 and largely unaffected by the sport on other channels. However, earlier, ABC News slipped below 300k.

Nine’s split schedule that featured NRL along the east coast on the main channel saw the game miss the top 20 this week while 10 grabbed two top 20 entries

Another big night for Seven, thanks to the Third-Place Playoff between the Matildas and Sweden (on Seven and 7Mate). Over 2m for the match is awesome.

Not much to report elsewhere. lol.

Massive audience for the Matildas’ last game at the Women’s World Cup.

SBS Viceland doubled its share from last week, thanks to live coverage of the first day of World Athletics Championships.

Huge ratings for the Matildas-Sweden Bronze Medal playoff match on Channel 7/7mate. I was astonished that 555k Melbourne viewers watched it on 7mate :hushed:
Channel 7 will take out the ratings week for the fifth week in a row.

Admittedly, Ten’s is an hour and the second half hour overlapped with the WWC pre-match… so difficult to compare apples/apples with the Nine 5pm news that was a statistical tie with it. I’m not sure the boffins at Ten would care too much about Saturday afternoon ratings to bother coding it as two half-hours, though, not with so much sport going around it.

Thought the 3rd Place Playoff would perform decently and get above a million viewers (with it getting close to 1.5 million if the game aired on the main channel in Melbourne).

However, the fact that it pulled 2.1+ million metro viewers demonstrates just how invested Australia became with the Matildas WWC run. A great way to cap off a magical few weeks.

There was an NRL game on last night on 9? The metro cut off was 138k!

Geelong were still a chance until late in the last quarter so I doubt many viewers would have switched off.

Saturday Night NRL on Nine always rates very poorly for some reason. People are used to it being a Fox exclusive timeslot I guess.

I wonder if the same will happen to 7 with the new AFL deal, where they only get produce Saturday night after round 15. Local teams will gets their team games after round 8

Incredible result for a third place play-off, did not expect that, Melbourne’s 7mate number particularly impressive (must be up there with one of the biggest ever for a market on a m/c)! Looking good for tonight’s final, yet another FTA disruptor and headache for especially Nine’s Block, even though no Matildas - we can only wonder what might’ve been.

I reckon Seven might not have got 50% if not split on a m/c, like hedged their bets each way and it paid off big time.

Seven News at a special later time and the old movie re-run also did well, especially Sydney but also the latter for a m/c in Melbourne. AFL held up okay everything considered, as did ABC, but ouch for Channel 9 and 10.

And WS is cruising ATM, Melbourne would be a highlight.
