Is the show being filmed at ATV10?
Apparently, there was talk that they had refurbished one of the studios at Como (where the cheap seats comes from) likely to accommodate this show being filmed there.
The audience call says location will be provided once participation is confirmed.
Interesting. Its a very small studio. Its original intent was to produce news. But in the last 10 years its become more entertainment and sports focused.
Indeed. Cheap Seats do a pretty good job of making the space look decent on-screen, so hopefully Sam’s show also looks alright and good they can have a small intimate audience too.
Hopefully any changes to the studio in there makes it easy to use across multiple shows and offers more flexibility etc.
Honestly would be crazy to do it from that studio. It’s half the size of The Project studio which is already tiny!
10 News Melbourne used to come from it until it moved to the studio on the newsroom level where Adelaide used to come from when they brought Candice on as co-host.
Is this sam Pang show going to have live bands artists like Rove and Hey Hey It’s Saturday used to?
Hope so
Little tidbit from the TV Tonight newsletter:
Yes Sam Pang Tonight will be filmed just hours before it goes to air on Monday nights, meaning Monday eps of The Project will be coming from Sydney during its run.
Wonder if this is more about the complexities of having multiple audience shows filming at the same time, or studio space / control room availability?
His show is probably coming from Studio Bert.
It’s a shame they are coming from Como for this. Studio Bert is far too small to have that tonight show feel from a large sound stage. Probably trying to saving on production costs.
Pictures form the article for anyone that can’t view it.
The riser and screens do sorta look like it could be from Studio Bert (where the Project films) in Como.
Edit: one of the captions says this is the rough set, so still not finalised for some of the rehearsal’s
Eagle eyed forum members will also recognise Cheap Seat’s Tim McDonald, who is noted as one of the producers on the show. .
That’s what exactly happened on The Front Bar tonight. Mick Molloy said Sam would be absent from The Front Bar for a few weeks due to his commitments to the talk show.
Looks like they’re using some project screens
When he launches his new prime-time talk-and-variety show this month, Pang will draw upon his mastery of deadpan delivery and clever ripostes, plus his experience on breakfast radio coaxing funny stories out of AFL footballers, Hollywood actors and reality TV stars.
Given Australia hasn’t had such a talk show since Rove McManus ended Rove Live in 2009, Pang believes the format is ripe for a revival.
“It’s not like we looked for a gap in the market or anything,” he says, shrugging.
“I’ve always wanted to do one. I don’t know why this country hasn’t had one [for so long]. It’s a bit like the Logies; I don’t know why they didn’t have a host for 12 years.”
Perhaps they were just waiting for the right emcee.
For Sam Pang Tonight, he is taking inspiration from his all-time favourite host, David Letterman, by opening with a monologue poking fun at the week’s events before interviewing a variety of guests.
One adjustment: he will focus on just two guests each week.
Borrowing elements from other hosts he admires, Pang says he will mix guest interviews with funny segments and live crosses.
And standing next to Tim McDonald is John Origlasso who is one of Sam Pang’s regular producers on lots of his past projects including The Front Bar.
Not sure why they couldn’t film where they film thank god you’re here
Cause it’s a massive auditorium? Cost, availability, the fact it would be far too large. Probably not conducive to filming a tonight show?
If anything, if a larger set was warranted they could’ve used 10’s big studio at Pyrmont - but the show is Melbourne based so that would’ve added to the cost.
