Or they would be calling the show the “Unnamed Sam Pang Weekly Show”
The Side Bar
Sam Pang Tonight? That’s a boring name. Bang with Pang was funny.
“Sam Pang Tonight” add just aired. “Coming to Mondays.”
March 17
What’s That? A Tonight Show!
Sam Pang Tonight. Premieres Monday, 17 March At 8:40pm On 10 And 10 Play.
Sam Pang Tonight is a brand-new show defying convention by bringing viewers something refreshingly familiar: a tonight show. Hosted by, you guessed it, Sam Pang.
Sam’s no stranger to Aussie audiences, he’s buzzed in from the front-right position for more than a decade on the fast and funny Have You Been Paying Attention?, he’s hosted the 2023 and 2024 Logie Awards and he’s a co-host on Seven’s The Front Bar. And now he’s got his very own tonight show, filmed in front of a live studio audience.
Expect a monologue that both celebrates and roasts the week’s news, a mix of local and international guests, along with plenty of Sam’s friends from the comedy world joining in the fun across the eight-episode season.
Sam Pang said: “I’m thrilled to bring a tonight show to Australian screens in 2025. Especially since Channel 10 passed on my pitch to reboot The Golden Girls.”
Shame this seems like a limited run until May when paying attention returns. Would like to see a longer commitment of this format.
So is it a Working Dog production or The Project?
It’s from Sam Pang’s own production company, One World Productions.
10 is testing the waters with eight episodes for the first season. If it rates well against reality shows on Seven and Nine, the next season will get more episodes.
10 usually work on a 2 week promo strategy for most shows, so a month isn’t bad.
Definitely seems like a short run, i’m guessing 8 weeks with HYBPA? starting around 12 May.
If it does well, maybe they’ll move to another night and continue… maybe Sundays?
Edit; Just read the release where it says 8 eps lol.
Honestly, if I were 10, I would’ve tested Sam by having him front a game show format first (e.g., Blankety Blanks or Family Feud) to see if he could actually handle bantering with everyday people before giving him a chat show.
That promo also doesn’t really set a tone for the show, nor does it give a compelling reason for viewers to tune in, which is unfortunate given all the hype around it.
I wish him well, but I think this won’t live up to audience or network expectations and will sadly be yet another light entertainment failure for 10.
Why? He has already got a pretty solid resume to suggest he can do this. Front Bar, radio and have you been paying attention. I don’t think he needs to prove anything.
He did. ADbc.
His years of bantering on breakfast radio don’t count?
Not the best promos. The last one is the best of the three, but reminds me of the one The Cheap Seats ran a while back
Hoping that’s not in any way the actual set
The Front Bart starts on March 5. A fortnight later, he will be on this Sam Pang Tonight show on the Monday. and The Front Bar on Wednesdays. Am sure the boys on The Front Bar will be giving it to Sam on their show, and a free plug or two for this 10 show.
