Sam Pang Tonight

NEP at South Melbourne would make more sense, but clearly 10 don’t want to spend any money.

I mean they’re tackling the hardest show to launch in Australia, so they are spending money.

It’s been a year or two since they have had an 8:30 show in that Monday night slot before HYBPA? starts, after WILTY? wasn’t renewed for a third season, so again they’re spending.

Obviously just not willing to stump up for a larger than needed studio for 8+ weeks to film a show that will be absolutely fine coming out of Studio Bert at Como.

You’d think they’ll use the F1 for lots of cross promotion. If Oscar does well in the GP hopefully 10 gets a big audience for the coverage so they can really promote Sam Pang.

I just don’t understand how they will do musical numbers in the current studio. Having been in there it just doesn’t fit much.

But they do for thank god you’re here. I just think if you want to make it a success don’t only go half way.

Hugely different proposition, that’s a big production that requires it for all the different sets etc.

It can also roughly film in one block, over multiple nights not once a week. Would be far too big for a tonight style show.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see how they pull it all off

Deal or No Deal is filmed at Docklands.

This should have been NEP or Docklands

Nobody has seen the show yet, and all saying it needs a bigger studio!? I don’t get it.

Watch it first and then talk about what could be improved etc.

I think people are saying that because talk shows have been what’s missing on Australia tv and we want to see if succeed. To do that 10 needed to invest in it. I was assuming we would have music numbers, it’s really unlikely in the project studio. And even if it does you wouldn’t have lady Gaga come and play like she did on Rove. I was also expecting a slightly bigger audience to really give it that feel. But that could be missing.

To me there are some alarm bells before the show has even started.

IMO I think with the short run, and the use of a rather small studio than what’s traditionally used for the format, I’d say that 10 are testing the waters with the format to see if there is an audience out there that they can grow. If the first season is reasonably successful, then I’d expect 10 to invest in the show a bit more.

I don’t know if that is the right strategy

I kinda agree - I do also feel like 10 are putting a lot of this on people simply tuning in because it’s Sam Pang.

I just want it to do well. I’m still excited about it I am just very nervous. Even the commercials aren’t telling us much

No but thanks for trying to correct me

Problem is everyone has their nostalgia hat on again rather than being realistic with the current TV climate

Best to keep expectations low and (hopefully) be pleasantly surprised with the end result. Sam is a wonderful talent, if anyone can make it work, he can. Who cares about studio size if he’s making us laugh

“Tonight shows” with big studio audiences used to be a thing here in Australia. But has been on a decline in the last two decades. In the last 20 years, we’ve had Rove Live and Enough Rope with Andrew Denton (and the Hey Hey It’s Saturday’s brief revival). In recent years, shows like The Project, HYBPA, The Cheap Seats and The Front Bar have had small studio audiences.

The current climate is that it is okay to have a smaller studio audience for some live-ish shows. And seems to work.

Correct you about what?

Sam is on the cover of TV Week

Is the show live, or has it been pre-recorded?

Taped as lived before broadcast.

Do we know what time it’s prerecorded? Monday Afternoons?
