Former Manly premiership player and coach Bob Fulton has died at 73. He won three NSWRL premierships as a Sea Eagles player in the 1970s, and was one of four players alongside Clive Churchill, Johnny Raper and Reg Gasnier to be granted Immortal status in 1981. As a coach Fulton led the Kangaroos to two World Cup victories and the Sea Eagles to two NSWRL premierships. Later he was an expert commentator on 2GB’s rugby league broadcasts.

Israel Folau has not been given approval to make his rugby league return for Southport.

The Queensland Rugby League (QRL) released a statement saying they had not received confirmation that Folau has been released from his existing playing contract with his overseas club, the Catalan Dragons.

The QRL said it “cannot proceed with any registration approval until such time as the clearance is received”.

However, it said that once international clearance had been given, Folau will be granted permission to play at community rugby league level, as per his request, “and no higher”.

Next month’s State of Origin opener may be moved from the MCG, depending on the latest COVID-19 situation in Victoria.

“wants to [be] treated like any other person”

Perhaps if he treated gay people “like any other person” he’d be playing.

I went to the Broncos v Storm game last night and the crowd behavior where i sat was completely atrocious. I was in the first row surrounded by broncos season ticket holders and the amount of abuse they they threw at the Touchie was a joke.
I certainly would not take my kids back if i had them with me, and who would want to be a ref? they are talking about the lack of refs (especially in the juniors) and when they get abused like i saw last night - i don’t blame them for not taking up the job.

Last week at GMHBA Stadium our cheer squad were subject to abuse, spitting just because we were wearing a colour other than navy and white hoops. Also made a young child cry. Don’t go to GMHBA Stadium for the football…

That happens in most sports. Most fan bases, if not all, have an element that are disgusting. Sad but true. And it happens in lower grades and junior sport too.

I’d say ban all alcohol sales to prevent a fair chunk of that happening but then everyone will get the shits, and be counter productive - people will just stay home and go off their chops there on the cheap.

Note the match takes place two days AFTER the current 7-day lockdown in Victoria is scheduled to end.

What’s interesting is this comment by Storm CEO Justin Rodski:

We are feeling for all Victorians who will be challenged by another lockdown and hope that this passes quickly so we can get back to playing in front of a packed AAMI Park.

Unfortunately, given the growing uncertainty in Victoria and advice provided to our club, we feel this is the best outcome.

They have a great record there from last year when they had to relocate due to COVID.
Didn’t lose a game I think.

Meaning they would have been told that there would be no fans at the match, were it to happen at AAMI Park. A small crowd at their second home is better than none.

And (I hope I’m wrong) but it could be for more than one week, and it would be safer for all concerned if opposition teams didn’t travel to Melbourne.
