Bring back the South Queensland Crushers, and be Gold Coast’s local derby rivals. While the Dolphins and Broncos can be the other truly local derby rivals.
But jokes aside - as @foxyrover said, surely Sunshine Coast is the next region to be included if a 5th Qld team is to be included. The Melbourne Storm team took games to the Sunshine Coast Stadium in 2020 during the Covid era in 2020 and 2021, and there even a Finals Match played there in 2021 too. So it could work?

I think the Dolphins could end up playing some home games at Sunshine Coast stadium when it’s redeveloped, Kayo stadium is too small.

The west of Brisbane and Ipswich would presumably be the next growth area. The Newtown Jets have floated that idea of a combined Ipswich/Newtown “The Jets” team to tap into both fan bases, kinda like the Perth situation.
I’d have to think regardless of talent, there’s more broadcast rights money for more Queensland matches than there are from NZ - despite that being a much smarter thing to hopefully poach union players who want to stay in NZ, as a way of bridging that lack of depth.

While a second New Zealand team on the South Island remains the favourite to win the NRL’s 20th licence, Brisbane holds two powerful bargaining chips in the expansion fight.
“Everything lines up to me to suggest a fifth NRL franchise could work in Queensland.”
Ikin said a Central Queensland bid should not be discounted, while the QRL chief executive believes Brisbane’s western corridor has the resources to ensure an NRL operation is successful.
“Anywhere you go in Queensland, they will probably make an argument they can host an NRL club,” Ikin said.

I was getting nervous there for a while, but the Dragons came through in the end. Love six to start the year and well on the way to their first inverse premiership since 1938. I’m already christening the appropriate kitchen utensil.

Fun fact: this is the second time in succession that the Cowboys have beaten the Broncos at Suncorp after their opponents won the premiership the previous year (also in 2007).
In fact, the Cowboys beat the Broncos twice in 2006, including in a game in Townsville where JT suffered a knee injury.
