I really like the concept of playing an origin game in NZ but 9.30pm start is just too late. They’re going to need to rethink the day for sure, maybe a half hour news bulletin with a 8.30pm NZ start.
I think I disagree here, mostly due to the rise of the Pacific teams. Both NZ and Tonga have beaten Australia in recent years, and Samoa has a pretty good team too.
Well the rise of the Pacific nations has helped undoubtedly. But keep in mind most players in these teams are based in Australia or New Zealand and are probably also eligible to play for said nations.
Not trying to downplay it by any means but would like to see it replicated in Europe as well. I also think there is potential in South Africa as well but Union reigns surpreme there.
There is definitely potential for league to catch on (like it has in the Pacific) in rugby dominated countries in Europe, Argentina and even Canada.
Either they prefer the more technical aapects of that game or don’t know league exists.
Tonga a bit hard done by with the refeering… that should have been a penalty try when RTS took out Sonni Luke on a kick chase with the line wide open.
Not surprised the game has been suspended this afternoon - constant loud rolling thunder across Brisbane for 10- 20 minutes.
Edit: now that the rain has arrived, the lightning and thunder are lessening; though there is large hail.
Game to restart at 6pm
Ended up being a delay of nearly 90 minutes. Never seen a delay like that before with league.
Good to see that a lot of fans have stayed around to watch the last 20 minutes.
At 7.26pm AEDT, Samoa defeats Tonga in a blowout but not a shutout. The score was 34-6.
Then you look at your pay packet and say “we’ll live”.
Problem is they’re not going to be taking it to actual expansion markets. It’ll just be based on money.
Munro is due to face Burwood Local Court on Thursday, after being charged earlier this month with a number of offences relating to an alleged incident in April.
The 20-year-old’s lawyer has indicated he plans to fight the charges.
The NRL confirmed on Tuesday that Munro would be sidelined under the game’s no-fault stand-down policy, as part of head office’s discretionary powers.
It means the winger will not be able to play in the NRL or any of its competitions until at least after the court case has concluded.
David Fifita is officially joining Souths after five years at the Titans.
In regards to Papi I think it’s a good move for all involved. I think they also should have held on to Pezet and let Hughes go. After losing 2 GF’s they definitely need some change and rejuvenation.
At least they have some good coverage for Paps, I imagine Sua Fa’alogo, a local Victorian junior, will become their new fullback. Interesting about Pezet vs Hughes, whilst the latter is still a great player, but at 31, he is getting on a bit.
Papua New Guinea have won the Pacific Bowl, after beating Fiji 50-18 in Port Moresby this afternoon.
Perth Bears can begin signing players from today.
