The league confirmed on Tuesday the men’s format would be copied into the NRLW from 2025, with regional venues in NSW to host for the next three years.
Six matches will be played over two days at Hunter Stadium, as part of the expanded 12-team competition with the addition of Canterbury and the return of the Warriors.

Manly have gone from Magic Round pioneers to left right out, with the NRL granting the Sea Eagles their wish of a bye during the Brisbane extravaganza.
The NRL revealed their fixtures for May’s Magic Round on Wednesday, including the drastic shake up of moving Brisbane from playing on Friday night to Sunday.
The Broncos will instead face four-time defending premiers Penrith on the Sunday afternoon, with the rematch of the 2023 grand final giving the weekend a last-day boost.

Australian government sources have said the deal is linked to a security arrangement that would stop Beijing from gaining a significant police or military presence in PNG.
The ABC understands Beijing has been trying to clinch an agreement with PNG that would allow police or defence troops to be based in the country.
A senior delegation of Papua New Guinean ministers departed for Australia this afternoon, ahead of an investment conference in Sydney next week.
(PNG Prime Minister James) Marape said he would return to Port Moresby on Wednesday, subject to negotiations between PNG and the National Rugby League Commission.
He said the final requirements were being “ticked off as we speak” and he was hopeful an announcement would be made by Thursday.

The Sunday Telegraph’s Sunday Sesh reports that the NRL’s GM Football, Venues and Broadcaster Relations, Shaun Wendt, has died.
The NRL was rocked this week by the sudden passing of long-time employee Shaun Wendt. Wendt worked at head office for nearly 30 years across a variety of roles, most recently in game day and operations. He was admired and respected across the game for the way he carried himself and represented Rugby League Central. He will be sorely missed.

I really do wish the Hunters all the best.
If I cast my mind back to the 96 and 97 Queensland Cup seasons, the Vipers were pretty competitive at home… but didn’t travel well. Allegedly many in the team struggled to be allowed in.
I think it’s a similar story with the PNG Hunters in the Qld cup
Tarryn Aitken was named the best female rugby league player of the year, while Rob Hawkins was named the best wheelchair player, in the 2024 Golden Boot Awards announced overnight. A presentation for the men’s and women’s winners will be held at Sydney’s Rugby League Central this Friday.

The Australian reports the ARL Commission has acquired the Ibis Styles Hotel in Port Macquarie for $15.5 million and a Mantra Hotel in Brisbane for around $22 million. It is part of the NRL’s bold move to establish an asset base worth $300 million. The asset base currently stands at $110 million.
